Serious Family Illness - *UPDATE*

I have an elderly but active Mom (94 and going strong). I have had the scary medical mysteries too. I'm glad it all worked out for you. And I agree with the above poster - tell Dad you'll bring him along on the next one!

Thanks so much for getting back to us and letting us know that he's all right. I'm so glad you were able to go.

Even when it's bad news, it can take weeks to get a precise diagnosis and start treatment. Some cancers are now caught so early that treatment can be delayed or taylored to suit the patient's schedule with no ill effect. Prostate cancer killed my dh's father but my own step dad was able to finish teaching the semester, and then was cured over the summer before he returned in the fall. Things have changed!

Check your credit card details because we have insurance through ours'. We have to make all payments with it (not what dh wanted to do but oh well). At least we don't have to pay extra for coverage.

Insurance also isn't always the answer as a few pp's mentioned. You can easily run into grey area. My sil had it for a vacation, not cruise but her mil's illness didn't fall within their reasons for justifying a cancellation. It was a cancer reoccurance, not iminate death or illness. Turns out the mil did well with treatment for another year...and they ended up going on another vacation as a family that same summer. They could have actually done the original one as booked...

It's also an excellent idea to get all those pesky health-checks out of the way before trips like this. When my sister had lymphoma, my mom and her dh went and had physicals done. "If there's any more bad news, we want to know now!" I have two more things to do and I keep coming up with excuses to put off.

Hope your dad is better and whatever it does turn out to be is soon discovered and cured.

...and let us know how the Galaxy was. We're on it in August!

Happy voyages all!

Sharon who is getting OFF the computer and scheduling her mamogram NOW!
