Getting to Pirate Ship in PV

Just a quick FYI for those going on the Marigalante Pirate Ship in PV on your own: the Marigalante docks to the far left (when looking at the shore) from the cruise ships. Just get off your ship and start walking within the port area--no need to go outside the fence, get a taxi or pay to get back into the port area. And it's not a long walk (5 min...10 max)

We bought our own tickets through a vendor (they give great info here on the boards and were great to deal with) but the directions that came with the email voucher told us to take a taxi to the Marina, pay the turnstile tax ($1.50pp) and then go to the M. Thinking that the Marina was separate from the ship's port, my husband & 5yo ds got off the ship, found a taxi which proceeded to take him around the corner and into the very area they had just left! Granted, the taxi driver wasn't very honest...but he did do as requested. There was a van to take them to the M. but dh was disappointed to drive straight past our cruise ship to the very next dock (he couldn't see it earlier from the ship's exit door). That afternoon, they just walked back to the ship.

We probably just got the directions for hotel tourists, but just wanted to alert other newbies to PV. The Pirate Ship itself was a lot of fun--5yo was tired but not exhausted when they got back. He didn't "lose it" until his balloon sword popped as they were walking back! Fun day!

Right on the money, larkwind.

No need to exit the marina or take a taxi at all if you are on a cruise ship and are going on any of the major boat tours, including the pirate ship. It's just to walk over. If you get directions from your vendor that you need to take a taxi for a boat tour, make sure to clarify with your agent just in case. There are a few exceptions, but you are at "Marina Maritima" which houses most of the boat cruises in town.

Hotel guests do need to take a taxi to the marina, pay the marina tax and then walk inside to the ships, but ship passengers do not.

Seriously bogus action by the taxi driver...most would just tell you to turn around and walk back inside. Most taxi drivers are honest, but there's always the bad apple - looks like your husband found him!

Glad you had a good time though!

We've done tons of tours throughout Mexico, and this is one of the very best we've ever done - both the day and night tours. The crew just does such a good job, and everyone always has a blast.

A little clarification, actually. The port has now opened all three docks, so depending on where you dock, the boat could actually be to your left or to your right - you should see it as you come in, though. It actually docks slightly different places depending on how many cruise ships are in port at the time.

Here's an aerial view of the marina as it existed earlier this year (when 2 docks were open):

Here's how the three docks lay out (this is a fake photo, but gives you an idea):

From left to right, ship #1 is where the dock has always been in years past. In between ship #1 and ship #2 is where the boat tours dock like the pirate ship and most of the others. This can vary depending on if there are cruise ships in both of those berths - the smaller boats do take advantage of the extra space sometimes, but it's all open, so it shouldn't be hard to see. If you can't see it, just ask the folks greeting you where you get off the ship - there are marina personnel scattered all over to assist you.

You won't have any problem as long as you stay inside the marina.

Have fun!
