Easy way to find out what specific nights are formal

On a current thread, someone has asked about which specific nights during a 12 night cruise are formal. Is there a rule of thumb that all cruise lines adhere to in determining which nights are formal on any length cruise? Good question so spa appts or dining reservations in alternative dining can be arranged ahead of time. Any help out there? Thanks in advance, Paul & Trudi in San Diego

RULE OF THUMB...

Captains night is always the second night out.

Gala farewell dinner is always the second to last night out.

This rule of thumb only pertains to Carnival that I know of, I have never sailed on any other cruise line.

There is no rule valid for all cruiselines. Already the number of formal nights varies.

If your cruise is one of the standard cruises repeated multiple times you might ask the question on the forum for the cruiseline you sail with or contact the cruiseline itself.

One additional rule of thumb, yet only a rough one, would be to expect formal nights on seadays.
