No one attacked her feelings. But what many pointed out (politely, at first) was that she wanted the cruise line, its employees, and the other passengers to all change their behavior to accommodate her! Who does that make the unreasonable one?

 

The people on this board are very sympathetic to the real problems that many people have. In fact, they generally treat everyone in the manner that they deserve. I don't see anything different here!

:rolleyes: Dave, You said it all...I would underline, "Real problems"....Teflon tips for the chairs???...would that not be a fun thing to watch in a rolling sea?...those who feel there has been abuse need to carefully read all of the posts from start to finish...I am still amused....More Gin!!!..Rob:D :D :D :D

I may have been the one to start the chair pad thing and somehow it morphed into teflon. The pads are some kind of textile and used to avoid scratching floors and to reduce the noise of chair movement in apartments and condos, with uncovered floors.

 

Is this practical on a cruise ship? Beats me.

They make little circular pads that can be attached to the bottom of the legs of the teak furniture. We use them so as not to scatch our custom hardwoood floor. In a high use area such as a pool area they would come off on a daily basis from the water and moisture, so would have to replaced daily. Plus those little pads would end up all over the floor as they fall off.

Sorry that your cruise was ruined. I forget your cabin location. I've noticed there have been a number of posts to stay away from Deck 8 (Vista) or whichever one is below the pool. It's odd that this deck has the more expensive cabins since it's higher on the ship. I hope you make a careful selection of cabin next time and enjoy your vacation.

Look, what's a concern to some folks is a nothing burger to others. I empathize with the OP if the sound of moving furniture was audible in his/her (sorry, don't know the OP's gender) cabin for 16-18 hours a day until 2000-2100 at night. Now, personally, I don't spend that much time in my cabin but if the OP does, hey more power to him/her. To each his own. I can guarantee you that HAL is not goining to start giving lectures to passengers on how to move their chairs more quietly on Lido (Pool) deck. If you find yourself in a cabin below, there's gonna be an increase in noise (teflon tips or not). Same with cabins next to/across from/below/above elevators, service areas, the show lounge, side thrusters, anchor chains, etc.

There's a lesson in all of this and it has been stated several times: You've got to do your homework when it becomes time do select a cabin. If you don't know the ship you're going to be on, look at deck plans (every HAL brochure has them), get a T/A that knows her/his stuff and do not get a "guarantee" because you don't know what you'll be getting. I hope that the OP has a better time on his/her next cruise!

No......it would not be a pretty sight for me to go into total meltdown!!! :eek: if someone messed with those gorgeous decks.

Well, I was rooting for 2kitties, because I figured that anyone with her persistence (29 posts on this topic alone!) deserves to be hired by HAL as their Chief Deck Officer and Stateroom Architect. I had a whole scenario planned out for her. I think she would be great at re-training the entire contingent of HAL deck-hands throughout the fleet on how to clean the decks quietly. She would be so successful that the HAL ships would be known throughout the maritime world as "The Quiet Fleet". I would love to see her nautically-designed deck chairs.

 

I wasn't going to have her just stop there; she's got the energy to spearhead a completely new HAL campaign. Instead of their "Signature of Excellence", 2kitties would create the "Signature of Silence". All staterooms would be designed to be utterly sound-proof. The new slogan could be "We guarantee a room as silent as the tomb, or it's our funeral."

 

And why stop there? I think 2kitties would have the ingenuity to also deal with the horrendous noise the tenders make when they are lowered and raised. The possibilities are endless.....

 

2kitties, my post is made in jest only, because I'm a pathetic nut; I don't want you to think that I'm making fun of you. I say keep tackling HAL, my dear, and you may eventually get the response you're looking for.

And that's just the point John:* The OP stated that she's an interior designer, yet couldn't figure out how to read a deckplan?* She knows about CruiseCritic and has been on 7 cruises prior to this one, but doesn't know that one might encounter some noise below the pooldeck?* Then*she clearly exaggerates the amount of time and the duration of the noises above her stateroom.* And on top of all this - she actually had the brass to tell a deck steward how to do his job!

 

For those that accuse us of being 'flag-wavers': *This situation could just as easily have been on any other cruiseline's ship - this is not strictly a HAL issue.* Yet I sincerely doubt that she would have received the degree of sympathy that she got on her first thread regarding this issue had it been on some other forums, nor as polite a response (if any) from some other cruiselines.

 

IMO - She's looking for another big payout like she got in the casino on Veendam - and she's upset that HAL isn't paying up.
