San Juan after 5

We've been here a couple of times before, both pre-stay and on port stops, but really didn't do much after dark except go to the Parrot Club and check out the waterfront by the piers.

 

For the first time, our ship arrives at 5 p.m. Besides eating and drinking, what else is there to do between 5 and midnight?

smoking and gambling come to mind - rounds out the vices. There is a casino walking distance from the pier, and a couple of clubs in the area, and some great cigar stores, with Cuban guys in the back, hand rolling.

They really would make a little extra cash if they kept the fort, rum factory and a few shops open past 5pm

we took a walking tour with a great guide who showed us the best of the city. He took us by the Don Q rum store for complimentary drinks and there was still a few stores open for shopping check him out at countrysidetourspr@yahoo.com

I would go on that tour in the evening to see the sparley Plankton !

DH and I took a self guided walking tour I found on Frommer's .com It was really nice and we had just enough time to get it done before dark. Walking this beautiful old city with lots of history at sunset was awesome. Very quaint cobblestoned streets and some great architecture. I've been told the Frommer's book has a more in depth tour, but the one available on line is free. :)

What is there to do if you are not into smoking, drinking, and gambling? We are only there from 5pm till midnight. Hubby, myself, and our teens are looking at doing the bio bay but my parents and aunt would not be able to do the kayaks.
