Baggage storage between flights

We're staying on Manihi after our cruise. On our last day, we fly back to Papeete on Air Tahiti and have about 3-4 hours before we check in for our Air Tahiti Nui flight back to LAX. If anybody has done this kind of thing, do you know if we can check our bags all the way to LAX before our Air Tahiti flight or if we can leave the bags with Air Tahiti and pick them up when we return to the airport to check in for our international flight? Either of these would sure beat having to lug them around when we go to dinner.

There are lockers and a storage room at the airport in Papeete where you can store your luggage for a fee. I don't believe you can send your luggage ahead of you anymore without being on the flight due to security reasons.
