mary07054 Posted August 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2004 i am purchasing US Divers Pro snorkel and mask for $32 - is this any good? or should i just rent my equipment on the ship?
oldmedic Posted August 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2004 maryo7054, we prefer to use our own equipment. We know its history, maintenance and sanitation. When we travel, we take everything except tanks and weights, (if we are going to be diving). I guess it depends on how often you plan on using it, and how concerned you are with sanitation. Hilary Posted August 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2004 I use a US Divers mask and snorkel for both snorkeling and scuba diving. Just make sure the mask has a tempered glass lens and fits you well and you'll be just fine. You're MUCH better off taking your own stuff. On our first cruise we used the rental snorkels and masks and were totally grossed out when we saw the boat operators rinsing the equipment in a fresh water barrel to get it ready for the next group. There was no bleach or sanitation of any kind...YUCK!!! We quickly went out and bought our own and have never regretted it. Heck, here we are 10 years later and I'm still using it for scuba diving. You won't go wrong with US Divers if the mask fits you well.
