VickiW Posted April 21, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2007 I will be cruising out of Montreal on May 19th. I am looking for a hotel to spend the night before at near the docks. Can someone recommend a great place to stay and suggest the best way to get to the cruise ship.
marycarhoman Posted April 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2007 Hi Vicki I also am cruising out of Montreal on May 19th aboard the Maasdam. We are arriving by train and will be staying at the Hotel Nelligan. it is in Old Town and not far from the pier I think. I read about it here as a good hotel. I have seen it mentioned in guide books also as a nice spot. I origionally tried some others but I beleive it is a holiday weekend there. Their website is http://www.oldmontrealhotels.com. Hope this helps.
Sally Forth Posted April 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2007 I am a huge fan of the Ste Sulpice. Great little boutique hotel in the Old Town. It might even be across from the Hotel Nelligan. http://www.lesaintsulpice.com/ They'll get a cab for you to get to the docks. Just make sure you tell the doorman where you are going and have him tell the cab driver. Montreal cab drivers are the worst for taking you on detours and then pretending they didn't understand you. (So what exactly did he think I said instead of "casino?") The Hilton Montreal Bonaventure is slightly closer to downtown than the Old Town, but still an inexpensive cab ride, and walking distance to most sights. It's attached to the train station via the underground path system. Viv

Ephraim Posted April 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2007 Please don´t call it Old Town... we call it Old Montreal (or Vieux Montreal in French - pronounced veyw monrayal.) Old Montreal is a very expensive area of town with quant, cramped or boutique hotels. Remember, this is some of the most expensive land in Montreal. You will find many great hotels are not a far distance from the port and old Montreal. And you can easily grab a taxi to get to Old Montreal. The driver will turn on the meter and you pay what it says on the meter and tip him a little bit extra. Or take the metro to Place des Armes and walk from there. The closest brand name hotel to the port is the very overpriced W and the InterContinental next to the convention centre. There are more moderate hotels a little ways away. Try the Delta hotel chain for excellent values and good service.
