dyslexic pirate Posted April 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2007 We stopped in Prince Rupert on a prior cruise and are looking at doing Alaska again in '08. Has the port of Prince Rupert developed and become more of a realistic stop for cruise ships yet?

Has the port of Prince Rupert developed and become more of a realistic stop for cruise ships yet? Since there is already lots to do there, I can only assume you mean when will Diamonds International arrive - I hope "never" is the answer. I love Rupert because it's still a real town rather than a phoney cruise port like Skagway. Murray
dyslexic pirate Posted April 25, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted April 25, 2007 I don't shop for jewelry when I cruise so DI doesn't interest me. The last time I was there most of the shops downtown were either no longer in business or were closed for the day. It just didn't really seem like they were quite ready for cruise passengers last time we were there.
Yukon Posted April 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2007 The last time I was there most of the shops downtown were either no longer in business or were closed for the day. Very few cruisers go downtown (because of the fairly steep climb to get there, I expect), and there are only a handful of shops oriented that way. Cow Bay on the waterfront is where cruisers go, and the few shops there are very much tied into the ship schedules. Why only a few shops? - with only 2 ships a week ( http://www.claalaska.com/pdf/2007/2007_PrinceRupert.pdf ) there's little financial incentive for more shops to enter the market.
