Hear the waves?

I have only been on the shore of the ocean and loved the sound of the waves slapping the shore. I am in a RS on the Connie this November and Mercury next November. Will I be able to hear the waves if I leave the glass doors open? I know this sounds stupid but I have never been on a ship before.

Out at sea you will hear the sound of the water crashing up against the ship as it sails through the waves. When the seas are rough, it can sound just like waves crashing on a shore, and you can definitely hear it with your balcony door open.

 

Usually, you'll just hear a steady rush of water, more like being near a waterfall then the beach.

 

In any case, sleeping with the balcony door open is one of the great pleasures of cruising!:)

It's the primary reason I get a veranda toward the front of the ship and on as low a deck as possible. It's very soothing to me to hear the ship cutting thru the water.

At home, in the summer, I sleep with the bedroom door cracked to the screened pool with the waterfall on so I can hear the water! This sounds even better!

The rock of the ship teamed with the sound of the sea as the ship cuts thru it is heaven at sea to us. Boy do we sleep too! Even in Alaska we kept the door open, just add blackets.

I only made my choices based on the wonderful people on this board and their great advice. Mind you, I have been reading these threads day and night and made my choices based on the advice given. Thank you.

We kept the balcony door open every night while on Galaxy.

It was great.

 

(We used a bungee cord to keep the door open).

On Galaxy, we attached one end to the balcony rail, and the other end to the balcony door door handle.

Thanks Caribbeanbound. Never heard of the door not staying open unless wave action has it moving.
