pholter Posted August 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2004 I'd say just hop in a taxi and go over to Orient Beach, then come on back and try out a little island cuisine and some shopping. On the way back to the ship, there's a little place called "Sharkey's" on the walkway/pier- they have excellent drinks and cool tank tops, too. Also, try the Ports of Call Message board and I'm betting there's lots of good stuff written... I wish we were going there on the Destiny in October vs. St. Thomas- I'd love to see a little more St. Martin :)
Rare dickinson Posted August 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2004 Definately go to the ports of call board or do a search. I think you can do Everyting cool yourself. Anything the ship offers you can usually do better, pricewise, yourself.
Lynne Myrna Posted August 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2004 Ken.....you are so lucky to be going on this cruise, we just came back, took the Glory Eastern....we are going again this Feb.....you are going to love this cruise, I wrote to a woman who was on a previous cruise with us, her name is Pam & she is going on this cruise with you on the 2lst. I told her how wonderful this cruise was.....we took the island tour of St. Maarten, also took the island tour of St. Thomas, the St. Maarten tour was much better. The service on the Glory was great, the only problem was that the ship is a bit broken up, & it took a little time getting around, after awhile it was easy. We also found the food to be very good. There are so many excursions to take, I heard that all of them are pretty good, we made ours through Carnival. Wishing you a great cruise, this one was a winner. joy21 Posted August 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2004 We also just got off the Glory and had a wonderful time. My immediate family scuba dives, but we were with 2 other families who loved their excursions at St. Maarten. One family did the See and Sea tour and were totally excited about it. They got to see many of the things we did without getting wet. The other family took the catamaran tour and had a blast! Those might be worth looking into. sea-n-ski Posted August 8, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2004 We chartered 2 cigarette jet boats (14 of us) for the day! What a blast! They took us to Anguilla where we had lots of fun snorkelling, etc. Have a great cruise! Laura

Codfish Posted August 9, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2004 If you want to see plane less than 50 feet overhead, head to Maho beach just in front of the airport runway.
sea witch Posted August 9, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 9, 2004 Orient Beach is interesting to say the least. Easily done by taxi. Also, if you're in the mood for jewelry, go to Joe's Jewelry shop in town. You can't beat the prices and they are very friendly. Don't ever go for the first price! Have a blast! betsyrossapk Posted August 9, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 9, 2004 When we went to St Maarten we rented a taxi for the day. You can drive up to Orient Beach & after spending time there, continue touring the entire island. There is a road that runs all along the entire edge of the island. We stopped in a little harbor on the French side & had the most delectable soup, while sitting & watching the sailboats. It was absolutely lovely. gsb Posted August 9, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 9, 2004 the cheapest booze in all the islands at a liquor store about 2 blocks to the right on the main street in Plillipsburg. Unbelievably low prices. Also, go into the casino on the right as you walk into town--take advantage of the free drinks and deals they offer. We ended up playing just the blackjack deals they gave us and won enough to pay for all our booze.
