Tigger007 Posted August 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2004 Do they take credit cards like at the Ropes? Or anywhere? Do they take American money or do we need to exchange it first? We would like to hire a ride, Ropes, etc but I am not sure what we need to pay for this with. Thanks:p

SeaPA Posted August 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2004 US Dollars are readily accepted everywhere on Roatan; some places give change in dollars, some in the local currency (lempira). Smaller denomination bills (i.e. nothing bigger than 20s) are very much preferrable, as a lot of the smaller local places don't keep a great deal of $$ on hand for making change. Most places accept travellers checks. Again, smaller denominations preferred. Also, you will need a picture ID (they prefer your passport), and many of the places will ONLY take American Express T/C & will decline offbrand checks. A lot of places accept credit cards but it is not the best option. There is an additional tax or fee of some kind placed on credit card transactions.
