I just booked Gerry for my day in Cozumel SO EXCITED!! I think the biggest benefit of this for us is that we can sleep in and get off the ship at 10:00 instead of 8:00am. Hubby is a night owl and I expect he will be in the Casino the night before till late. Our day in Cozumel is his 50th b-day!!:):)

Spent 5 short hours on an island tour, was just fantastic... The island, beach and water was beautiful. Lazaro took us to see baby turtles being hatched what a sight. Each time I go to Cozumel we see something new. Lazaro knows just where to find that perfect spot.

I am so glad we took the time to hire Lazaro and really see what Cozumel is all about. Thanks again Lazaro for another beautiful day in paradise.

I sent an email to cozumeltaxi@hotmail.com and heard back from Mike Thompson that same day with what was probably an email that is sent to anyone who inquires. It said that Gerri was available and told me to respond and confirm the arrangements. Well I responded immediately since our cruise was only 2 weeks away. I have sent an email daily for the last several days but have not heard back from Mike. Has anyone else encountered this? I don't know for sure if our day is confirmed or not and now our cruise is less than 2 weeks away. Does anyone have a phone number?

Zonabelle, I rarely went more than a day or two w/o hearing back from Mike, when I had a question for him. However, I did ask him if Gerry had a cell phone, just in case we had a problem making port or something and needed to call him. Here is what he gave me, and hope it helps you:

Gerry's phone only accepts local calls, but my cell is: 011 521 987 564 0437

All - our cruise got diverted last week because of Hurricane Paula so we didn't get a chance to meet Gerry. Mike was always very responsive even when we got diverted. Their internet might be down because of Hurricane Paula. Give them another shot!

Thanks for your responses. I will try to call Gerri at the number provided but I am betting it will not accept the call since we are not in MX. I had thought about Hurricane Paula causing some problems so maybe that is the issue. I sent another email and maybe I will hear back before we leave next week. You guys on this board are the best!

Be sure to dial 011+52 then the area code and number.

You might also check your spam email bok to see if any relies are there. @hotmail urls often get routed there.

As far as damage from Hurricane Paula, there wasn't any on Cozumel. Some wind gusts at night to 20-30 mph. Paula was a very small storm size wise and her outer bands didn't get out that far, which is one reason she was slow to get moving and then petered out fairly quickly.

Zonabelle, sorry for the confusion. The number I posted was Mike Thompson's number, so it should go thru. I had asked for a phone number I could call from a U.S. cell phone., as my husband has one that works for international that he uses for business. He didn't give me Gerry's number, since it would only accept local calls.

Good luck!

YAY. Finally heard back from Mike Thompson. I think he was having internet issues. I guess that happens even in Cozumel. I thought it only happened at my house. LOL. Anyway, we are confirmed with Gerry for the afternoon of 10/30. Not very far away at all now. It will be such a treat! Thanks for the responses. This board and the members are great!

Sure. I will let you know how it goes. I am a little concerned about the tropical storm/hurricane that is forming down there right now. It should be well past by the time we get there and I am hoping that we have some clear weather, but you never know. I could stare at the water for hours and take in the indescribable colors, but it won't be as magnificent if we don't have some sun. Anyway, I will post about our tour when we get back. We are not drinkers and do not enjoy big crowds, so we are seeking quieter places and won't be hanging out in the bars or at the beach parties. Our tour might seem a little tame and boring to someone else, but that is the beauty of hiring someone so you can "do it your way"!

Zonabelle, when we were there in March, we had some unusually cool, windy and rainy weather. I never dreamed I'd have to wear a jacket and long pants in Cozumel! We were meeting Gerry at 9:30AM, so took our snorkel equipment along anyway, hoping the weather would clear as the day went along. The rain stopped, and the sun did come out, but it didn't get much warmer, so the snorkeling was out. However, Gerry helped us plan an alternative itinerary and we ended up having a great day with him(and our tour, too, would seem "tame and boring" to a lot of others.;) ) So, trust Gerry to help you plan for the weather and you'll still enjoy your day in Cozumel.

To hire Jerry for just two people for the 3 hours - is it $95 or $195? It sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks.

It is $95.00 for up to 4 people for 3 hours. That is $95.00 total. (not per person)

It is $195.00 for up to 8 people for 3 hours. Again that is $195.00 total..not per person. Up to 8 people is more because he has to rent a full size van.

Each additional hour is $25.00 each.

I don't know Dario, but usually when Gerry is busy, Mike recommends Lazaro. He is a great guy as well. Is he already busy too?

Yes, he said that all of his drivers were already booked. His only recommendation was the Bar Hopping tour. This is a girls trip to celebrate our 50th birthdays and 3 of my friends have never been on a cruise before so while we like to drink and have a good time, we really don't want to spend our day in Cozumel at a bar. Maybe part of the day, but not all day:) I guess we could take our chances and negotiate a fare once we're there, but I would feel better about having a recommendation. Thanks so much for responding to my post!

I believe the Cozumel Bar Hop lasts for 4 hours???? If that is the case, you would have plenty to time to go downtown afterwards for shopping....or shopping right there at the pier.

Just an idea.....

I contacted Mike awhile ago and asked about booking Gerry for Feb. He said Gerry didn't book until Nov 1 so I emailed Nov. 1 and not only he, but all of Mike's drivers, were booked.

Had never considered the bar hop but really want to see the other side of the island. Are some of the beaches safe for swimming? Do you know if the prepayment is refundable if there is any problem?

With Cozumel Bar Hop... I would think your prepayment should be refunded if for some reason the ship did not dock. Now if you just don't show up or change your mind, then it would not be.

If I were you, I would double check with Tom about the specifics before you book.

The East side of the island is cool for many reasons but safe beaches is not one of them. They have some AWESOME waves that crash in and shoot up through the porous rock.

The bars over there are a hoot. Coconuts...(use your imagination)...Bob Marley (use your imagination)....LOL

For $49 each, you get transportation AND 5 free shots. If you want some beach time...I "think" (double check with Tom) you stop at a beach on the WEST side (where safe beaches are) BEFORE heading over to the East side...

the BEST of both worlds.....

Hello everyone; there is a lot of good advice here abou getting a personal tour of Cozumel. It's my first time this month going and I am very excited! My husband & I are not big snorklers, but we'd love to just tour the island. I emailed Mike and he said Gerry is not available; but that Gil is. Has anyone ever done a tour with him? Thanks!

We have not done a tour with Gil...however, Mike has provided excellent service with Gerry and Lorenzo....so I would think that Gil would be just as good.

It seems that Mike and the crew work very hard to select the best folks...I would not hesitate to give Gil a try.
