Hey gang,

We just got our cabin assignment, and we're on the Panorama deck under the Unicorn Pool...has anybody ever stayed in one of these? I'm just wondering if it will be noisy.

We stayed in 8169 and that was probably in the same vicinity. We didn't hear much of anything. Occasionally we would hear some chairs scraping on the floor, but that was rare, and we heard it when on the balcony, not in the room.

Have a great trip!!!!:D

We are sailing on the Legend on June 15th and we are total newbies and have never been on a cruise before  More than likely we will just go on a cruise every 10-20 years! We can't afford to go on something like this all the time. I know it's the same $ as going on our vacations but I just don't think I could make a sailor out of the DH. Anyway, he's already sick of me going around the house singing the "Love Boat" theme song all week!

Of course I know nothing about cruising and would appreciate someone's help!

I've been trying to slowly read this thread. I think I'm on page 10! :D

First off if anyone could help me.

What are tenders?

What are Capers?

What is a Muster Drill?

I read an earlier post about someone filling a suitcase full of bottled water. Since we're driving to our port to sail off could we fill one with the DH's choice of beer and take on the boat? Is that legal? We're both over 21! ;)

Sorry to drive all you experienced cruisers crazy with all my newbie questions but everyone was a newbie once were'nt they? LOL :p Thanks!

Tender- The small boat that takes you from your cruiseship to shore.

When the cruiseship cannot dock for whatever reason, these little boats whisk you back and forth between land and your ship.

Capers- Little newsletters/agendas for the next day. They tell you about the next port of call, excursions, activities, whether it's formal night or not, when to set your clock ahead or back, etc.

Muster Drill- A mandatory drill for all guests and staff. You put on your lifevest, go to the correct exit from your room and wait until everyone is accounted for.

You are going to have such a good time.

Being a Newbie is good. Everything will be so delightful.

Enjoy!

In Grand Cayman and Belize you not dock at a pier, you will tender. This means you will get on a boat (a tender) from the ship and be "tendered", or ride this boat, to land.

Capers are the daily "newspaper" that you will receive every evening that will list everything going on on the ship the next day.

Muster drill is where everyone must go to their muster station. It's the lifeboat drill....like a fire drill. So everyone will know where to go in case of an emergency. This takes place right before sail away. You must be wearing your lifejackets, which will be in your cabin. Oh....don't blow the whistle!!

You may bring on a "reasonable" amount of soda and water. I don't bring on water....out of the tap has been fine for me. I bring three 12 packs of Pepsi since they only sell Coke products on the ship.

As for the beer....that would be considered smuggling! I smuggle, but have never smuggled beer. Anything you smuggle should be in your checked luggage as opposed to what you carry on. There's lots of threads about how to smuggle if you do a search.

Don't worry about making a sailor out of your DH. My DH was the one who suggested our first cruise. I wasn't too sure I wanted to be "stuck" on a ship for 7 days, so we just did a 4-nighter. I believe there's still scratch marks on the pier where he had to drag me off the ship.....kicking and screaming! If your DH has any sense at all, he will become addicted like the rest of us...lol!

Congrats on your anniversary and enjoy your cruise!!!

Thanks you guys so much for the help! I know I think he's going to enjoy this cruise a bunch! He didn't want to go to DisneyWorld either and he had more fun than I did once we got there! I still tease him about having to get back in line again for Epcot! LOL

Since all your questions have already been answered, I will just add that you two are going to have an awesome time!!!! The Legend is a beautiful ship with a wonderful staff, and the ports are all interesting and different from one another.

If you haven't already done so, check out the ports of call threads for valuable information and advice about the ports and excursions available. Don't worry about your DH....he will be a cruise addict like the rest of us! You just don't know until you do it what an awesome vacation it can be! We did the Legend in Nov and have already booked it again for 2009...that's how good it was! Hope you have a great cruise and Happy Anniversary!!!:D

Has anyone ever had an adjoining room on the Legend? We have rooms 7259 adjoining to 7263 and then also 7267 which is next door. Two questions: Do you know if the door that joins the rooms makes the rooms lose the couch to accomodate the door and will the steward open the balconies so that we can be connected that way also? My husband and I are in 1 room that connects to our 28 year old and 9 year old daughters. The next room is our oldest daughter and her husband. We sail 3 weeks from tomorrow and I can't wait!!!! Thanks for any help! Mary:)

I think what you mean is that you have 2 connecting cabins (2 cabins that have a door to connect the cabins) and another cabin adjacent (2 cabins next to each other)...is that correct? We have 2 connecting balcony cabins as well booked for June, and I saw a pic on another thread that showed the connecting cabin lay-out. In that photo, the connecting door was across from the bed, and the couch stayed in it's usual location. Since I will have to visit the Purser's Desk once we board, I am going to put in my request immediately to have the balcony divider unlocked too. If all 3 of your cabins are next door to each other, with no other cabins in between, you can have both dividers unlocked if you wish. Hope this helps...Let us all know about your cruise as soon as you get back!!

Kim,

Yes, that is exactly what I was trying to say! We have 3 rooms in a row with 2 of the rooms adjoining inside as well since my 9 yo dd will be sharing with her 28 yo sister (whom I'm sure will be keeping much later hours then my 9 yo!) I'm going to head to the pursers as soon as possible to request that the balconies be unlocked! I'm glad to hear that we won't lose our couch. Someone had said that on the Sensation, they did. We sail in 2 weeks!!! I'll report as soon as I get back!

As to the beer question, get a collapsable cooler on wheels with a handle (looks like luggage), make sure your beer is cans in the 12 pack, 24 pack packaging to prevent movement.

Buy a bucket of beer on board then use the bucket to put your beers in with ice.

But trust me, you're still gonna buy plenty of their booze! We do even though we bring some of our own. I have a lot of those Drink of the Days and we always run out of our own beer by day 3. If you have a balcony it's really nice to have a drink there without going to get one and bring it back, or waiting for room service to show up.

The reason I say to bring the collapsible cooler is because your steward will keep it full of ice for you (super cold beer - and extra tip for them!) and the refrigerators really don't get very cold. Cool is more like it!

MidWestCruiser69,

Where are you from? I'm near Green Bay, WI. I'm not going on the Legend until August and can't wait! Enough snow already!

I had to chuckle when you asked about the Muster Drill. When I mentioned to my daughter about the Muster Drill, she thought I said Mustard Drill. Very confused moment. Now I can't see or hear "Muster" without thinking Mustard.

I just started on these boards last month, my advice, explore all the different areas these boards. You'll get all your questions answered whether you knew you had the question or not. Any other questions, don't be afraid to ask, you're probably helping someone else.

Good Luck! I'm sure you'll have a blast!

I'm thrilled about this thread. Just booked the Legend for the June 8th sailing. I haven't gotten a chance to read the whole thread yet. Does anyone know how room 8182 is? Online it said it had an extended balcony. We're definitely looking forward to this cruise.

We were in 8169 (on the other side of the ship). We were around the middle of the ship, so you would be a little further toward the back (probably under the Unicorn Cafe). The rooms are pretty much identical in every way. We found it was plenty roomy for the 2 of us. It was nice that there was a sofa and table so you don't have to sit on the bed. The extended balcony is wonderful...we are definitely spoiled now! There are 2 chairs and a table out there with room to spare.

You're gonna love it!:D

gogirl: That's great that we will be on the same cruise! Did you post on the roll call board? I posted there a while ago. We hadn't made up our mind between the Valor and the Legend yet. I guess I should go back there and post that we had decided on the Legend. We're leaving the girls behind this cruise. I'm kind of looking forward to adult time.

We just got back from the Legend cabin # 8180 a week ago today. It was a great room with an extended balcony which means you have a little more room to move around. The only night we could hear noises from above was the night of the mexican party. We had brought ear plugs along just in case and they worked well. From your room it is just a short walk down the hall and up one level of stairs to the Unicorn cafe. You picked a great room!!

I am sailing the week before you and "mom2girls". This isn't our first cruise, but the anticipation is just the same as if it were! I am addicted to these boards and have met some really kind & wonderful people here.

We'll try not to clean out the casino and bars...but won't promise!! Have a GREAT cruise!!
