Druke I Posted August 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2004 World Ocean and Cruise Line Society is reporting that Carnival MAY order two new ships from Fincantieri, Italy, both 180,000 GRT, 5,000 PAX; one for Princess and one for Cunard. Too big for me! Michael
Britanis Posted August 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Big Mistake. Only 30,000 tons bigger than QM2, yet twice as many passengers! I thought Cunard was supposed to be a premium line with "traditional British ambiance." How will an overcrowded megaship, probably with a Princess shopping cart handle fit that image? It won't. This kind of bad idea is very un-Carnival like, and leads one to believe that the merger was a huge mistake. The company has become too large to be governed effectively, and the stress of it all has gone to Arison's head.
