Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted July 10, 2007 #28 Share Posted July 10, 2007 I'm not sure how loud QE2's whistle is, but the best place to hear it is in the fjords! Matthew Yes, being ONBOARD [just to clarify:rolleyes: ] in the fjords is great for hearing the horn reverberate. The best use of the horn we ever heard was when we were onboard going through the Panama Canal. At the last lock heading toward the Pacific, a lot of people had gathered to sit in the viewing area to watch us go by. The captain blew the horn and people applauded. So he really leaned on it the second time, and it set off someone's car alarm. The car's owner ran to his car to turn off the alarm, then returned to the bleachers. And yes, as soon as the poor guy sat down, the captain hit the horn again and the car alarm went off again. We were very disappointed at not setting off any alarms in the Geiranger last summer. bcscot Posted April 5, 2008 #30 Share Posted April 5, 2008 My understanding is that if they are air driven, they are HORNS & if they are steam powered, they are WHISTLES. Graham.

Rare Host Sharon Posted April 5, 2008 #32 Share Posted April 5, 2008 The Queen Victoria's horn is pretty pathetic next to QE2. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-1785212737054104826
Highlander0108 Posted April 5, 2008 #33 Share Posted April 5, 2008 The Queen Victoria's horn is pretty pathetic next to QE2.http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-1785212737054104826 We were on QE2 there and I have to say that the audio really does not do the QV horn justice. It actually was pretty good sounding, but nothing compares to QE2's deep horn.

Highlander0108 Posted April 6, 2008 #35 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Thanks Kyle, you obviously had a better position up forward than us, at the stern near a speaker that spoiled the video a bit. KenM
