How Early Can We Drop Off Luggage?

We have to drop our rental car off early the morning of the cruise but we would like to spend more time in Dover before boarding the Constellation. Will we be able to drop off our luggage at the pier before 10:00AM and come back and check in about 1:00 or 2:00? Thanks for the advice.

I would not drop the luggage off before 11am. Any earlier and you run the risk of having your bags mixed up with those who are disembarking from the previous cruise. It's a madhouse in Dover, and you could very easily find your bags have been mistakenly taken by someone else.

Kitty9 is right on, they will not handle boarding baggage until nearly all of the departing passengers have picked up thier bags. Not sure how you get to Dover by ten am, since even Gatwick is about 2 1/2 hours from the pier. If you are staying overnight in Dover you could leave your bags at the hotel until you are ready to go to the cruise terminal.

 

Dover is a very interesting city, and we have stayed a day or two at the Churchill hotel, pre cruise, twice before boarding the Constellation. The hotel faces the harbor and the White Cliffs, and we were able to watch the Constellation sail in as we had coffee on our balcony. The city center is just a couple blocks from the Churchill, and a hop-on hop-off tourist bus calls at the hotel. The castle is on the bus tour, and that is a must see for Dover.

 

If you can fit in a day in Dover, it is well worth it.

Thanks for the advise. Actually we are staying in a B & B just outside of Canterbury for a couple of days and I was trying to avoid extra rental charges for turning the car in late. We'll probably just keep our car till about 11:00AM, check in, and then wander around Dover.
