The OP wasn't even solo!

 

Many of the posters on that thread say this could happen anywhere...which it could. But if someone drugs you in the US, at least you don't have to worry about catching a ship...or having to deal with a corrupt police force.

 

I'm glad I read that, because it never would have occurred to me to not drink something that you are served in a restaurant!! I've traveled in Europe, and went on a short cruise, so I'm aware of thieves and pick-pockets, and I know to stay in crowded places where there are plenty of other people about.

 

But not eating/drinking while in port, I never would have been concerned about that!

I titled the thread "solo excursion"...but it really isn't so much the excursions as traveling on your own through the port towns. Although I'm sure there are some shady excursions out there too.
