Suggestions for Tarragona Spain

Recommended Posts

We are going on the HAL Prinsendam in September and one of our ports that we stop in, is Tarragona Spain.

Any suggestions for things to do in the port are welcome. I am not interested in going to Aventura (the amusement park).

Thanks in advance.

You may see the tourist office site:

In Tarragona you may visit the city. The city has important roman and medieval monuments (the cathedral is wonderful) that are worth visiting. Tarragona was residence of some roman emperors, like Agusto, for some years, due to its wonderful climate. Emperor Constante seems to be buried near Tarragona at the mausoleo of Centelles. You may do the visit by walking on your own following the itinerary proposed by a guide book or doing some of the walking itineraries the tourist office use to offer.

Off Tarragona you may visit by renting a car or by taxi the Royal Abbeys Cisterciennes of Poblet and Santes Creus (they are very close). Poblet is the biggest medieval monastery in Europe (there are 30 monks) and royal mausoleum for medieval kings of Aragon and Earls of Barcelona. On the way to both abbeys you have the medieval city of Montblanc which is also worthy visiting.
