Let's make a pact

I have read countless posts about rude behaviour and poor attitudes in the past several months and have an idea. Let's all agree to put aside our "me only" and "that does not pertain to me" attitudes and agree to use our manners on our next cruise. Let's create a list of do's and don'ts. I'll start:

Don't

let your kids splash adults in the pools

Buy alcohol for minors

Pee in the pool or off the balconies

Get soo drunk on a party barge that you collapse on a grandma that was just standing at the beach:eek:

Expect the cruise employees to watch your kids in the casino, pool, buffet, ...well anywhere other than camp carnival

nit-pick (come on your on vacation - who cares if their is a stain on the carpet- you don't have to clean it);)

Do

Try to say please and thank you (instead of "now" and "what took you so long?")

Follow the rules Carnival set and please note they do not have any personal exceptions. I haven't read a Carnival rule that said "except Okiegirl"

Be polite to other cruisers

Take it all in stride and have a great attitude

SMILE:D

Don't:

Jump off balconies.

Be rude to fellow cruisers.

Think you are the only one on this cruise.

Be a chair hog.

Pee in the pool.

Do:

Leave your troubles at home and have a good time.

Remember, a little niceness is contagious.

Tip any deserving staff well.

Book your next cruise.

Go with an open attitude to have fun. And just because someone else is having fun in a way you won't. Don't judge or be rude to them. As long as they are not invading your "space" let them have their fun.

Also, if you are the one having fun - please be polite and considerate of others around you that might not celebrate in the fashion you do!

Say hello to someone new each day - you never know - you just might make a new friend!

;) Be aware how sound travels under the doors to the cabins. Just because you are wide awake and in party-mode at 2am doesn't mean that other cruisers want to join in the festivities.

If dining in one of the formal dining rooms, don't say "yeeccchhhh" or shake your head and wave your hands wildly to something that you tasted and don't care for. Just say, "I don't believe I care for any more." Or "I will pass on that for now." Besides being rude and crude, you may unintentionally offend one of the others at the table.

The cruise line is not responsibile for knowing and fulfilling every cruisers' personal tastes. It is a holiday and change of style and pace. Relax and enjoy. You will be home soon enough.

If going ashore, for gosh sakes, remember that you are a foreigner and a guest in someone else's country. Respect the customs and their ways of doing things. We certainly expect visitors to our country to abide by our ways. Others have different values and customs. Be very polite especially; we have learned that many countries are very polite and formal in their way of dealing with those who are not members of their family.

I'll get off my soap box, now, have to plan for my next cruise in the fall. :D

Do smile even when you don't feel like doing so. It will help cheer you up and others around you.

Do remember that many were not raised the same as you were so they may not "be on the same page" as you when it comes to lots of things.

Do be friendly and kind to the staff. They might be having a bad day and you being nice/kind/friendly will change things around for them.

Don't let your children run wild all day long. Make them check in with you, also, go looking for them to check and see what their up to.

Don't drink so much that you are not in control of your bodily functions and mind. (you might think what happens on the ship stays on the ship but with today's technology it usually ends up on chat boards or youtube)

DON"T:

Allow your children to wear those shoes with wheels

Break in line in the buffet line just because you want one thing

SAve chairs by the pool

DO:

It's everyone else's vacation not just yours

Use your manners

Do unto others as you would have them do to you

Realize how blessed you are to be on a beautiful ship in paradise

I can't speak for other cruise lines (since we have only cruised Canrival) but sadly, Carnival does actually need to give all passengers a list of do's and don'ts.

I have always found that my boys have behaved well on cruises because they are expected to behave well at home.

What we are seeing with children is that there is no discipline at home and when they cruise ... the parents have some unrealistic expectations that these kids are instantly going to "grow manners".

Undisciplined children grow up to be unruly young adults who grow up to continue the viscious cycle of when they have kids of their own.

That is why the cruise lines have to have rules and we (as passengers) have the right to demand that cruise lines enforce them!

I agree with you LOL because rules would help in many ways. A list of do's and don'ts will improve carnival cruiselines.

I always see kids on cruiseships which are not very disciplinary at all. I just try to ignore as kids fly buy screaming and behaving wrongly. My niece and nephews act very well on the ships because they were taught well at home.

I find passengers which are positive and going the right direction but it seems I see more people misbehaving or complaining constantly. I always think positive and wish others to do the same, be thankful for being here, on a Carnival ship too!:D

A lady at our table one time ordered escargot which grossed me out enough, but she went on and on and on about snails that i seriously thought about leaving the table!! Order them if you want, but not everyone will eat that and they certainly don't want to hear you talk about it for 30 minutes!!

Don't check your manners at the gangplank. Remember, you're not the only one on vacation.

Don't let your kids run up and down the halls early in the morning. Some of us are trying to sleep in. (One thing I'm really looking forward to.)

DON'T

*If there is a line for something, please do not push the person in front of you in the back, they can't go anywhere if there is a person in front of them! Please be patient! You will get to that buffet or whatever it is you are standing in line for!

*Save seats in the main theater for your loved one (who just stopped by the casino until the show starts)!

*Think just because you have a room steward that you can be a big slob!

DO

*Try something new every night in the dining room! If you don't like it nobody is going to force you to eat it! (I am going to try the chocolat melting cake one night)

*Have the time of your life, its your vacation....enjoy!

*Buy something in every port that you can put on a shelf at home and say....that's from when we went to .......

*Start palnning that next cruise!! (If you haven't done that already!)

Thats fine and dandy for the people themselves but the cruiseline needs to step up to the plate also.

Don't allow saving of deck chairs..enforce it.

End the midnight buffet, people are big enough already.:D

Enforce a dress code, no Jeans in the dining room.

Enforce the adults pool for adults.

Enforce smokers who smoke where they are not supposed to.

Enforce the booze smuggling

Stop towel animals and save our seas.

End tipping and include it in the fare.

Stop causing hazards with photo ops.

Enforce kids in diapers out of the pool

EnForce 95 year old men in diapers out of the pool.

This thread makes it obvious that watching too many "Reality Shows" causes one to lose touch with reality. I'd guess that those that need this thread the most have never visited CC. Hopefully none have. Now that's unrealistic.

The sad part is, even if everyone on CC followed the "suggestions", that only accounts for 1% or 2% of all people who cruise. It 's not our fellow CC'ers that I worry about, it is the other 99%.

Megan's dad - I would have agreed with you on the fact that CCers weren't the problem EXCEPT over the past couple of months all the reviews, posts and comments I have read.... just yesterday there was a heated arguement over a baby in the swimming pool. Not to mention - all the people that do admit to doing things. Let's face it - we can't blame others until we look to ourselves. And I believe than even if it is only 1% - it is more than what was there previously.

Y'all have posted SO many good do's & don'ts that I can only add 2

Don't: Forget that you're on vacation, so just enjoy!

Do: Remember that you may be the person that someone in the port you're visiting uses to form their opinion about Americans (Or Canadians, or wherever you may be from). Remember, you're in their country, so be respectful, thankful, and if necessary, be forgiving.
