Can anyone suggest a good, lowered price hotel in walking distance to Waikiki etc? The holiday inn is 126 but was wondering if anyone had any tips. I go on the pride of america june 2nd and want to go to honolulu a few days early.

Thanks!

We just returned from there and stayed at the Holiday Inn. The hotel was very comfortable and clean, though it is an older property. The staff was very accomidating. After some research, I thought it was the best deal for the money and was completely satisfied.

James,

I cannot help too much with the rates, but I thought you were headed to the POH and not the POAm? We will be on the POAm on June 9. Hopefully we will meet up with you. Do you know where you will be serving? As for hotels, you could always try priceline or hotwire and see what it can come up with. Thanks.

don't have personal experience with this one, but Aqua Bamboo is $126 and includes continental breakfast. Is $119 for AAA rate if you belong. I've read reviews on Tripadvisor and they seem very good for a low priced hotel near the beach. I may stay there in January before and after my POAl cruise. jm2c

Check out the Ohana Hotel Chain---some friends who stayed in their one on Waikiki before and after their cruise found it quite suitable and inexpensive (thery may have a AAA discount). We checked them out and were ready to book - but were able to get the Marriott on points for just $30 per night for a required upgrade. Ohana has a great website and a nunber of really nice services like free internet - plus the city bus stops there. Good luck!

Try the Hawaiiana. On net for less that $100pn. Short walk to the beach. Older hotel but one of the original Hawaiian Garden type hotel. I block north the the Reef and no major streets to cross. It is old but clean. It has two pools. Small hotel. Building are two or three stories. We have stayed there. Mostly we have stayed at the HHV because we have gotton good rates.

It has bueatiful gardens. I stayed there becuase I have been trying to stay at hotels that were around when I was stationed at FtD. Some I would not stay at night and many are gone and some have never been updated.

The holiday Inn is located where my apartment was. It was located on Kaioo on the back part of the property. It is probably a nicer hotel, but I like the garden type hotels. You have to cross a major street to get to the beach and it is a walk to get to the main section of Waikiki. Hope this helps.

James, have you ever pricelined for hotel rooms? For both business and leisure travel I do it all the time and it simply is amazing. Note, I wouldn't do it for air travel -- winding up exhausted by a checkerboard routing that takes 4X longer than I can book myself isn't worth it to me. But for hotels and rental cars, except on trips where I have a specific desire to stay at a certain place, Priceline is really the way to go in my experience. Check out www.biddingfortravel.com for information on bidding strategies, how to compare prices to create a reasonable bid, and a list of hotels in various star classes Priceline has booked. We've had the Hyatt Regency Chicago on North Wacker for $72 a night (when the rack rate was $265 per night) -- and more recently I got the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno for $60 on two weekend nights with the lowest price anywhere on the web (kayak, sidestep, etc) at $180 per night. Also got my standard size rental car on that Reno trip for $13.00 per day. Sometimes I use Hotwire, too -- the same Reno trip (splitting the stay) gave us four nights at the Atlantis Resort & Casino for $36.00 per night including taxes (hotel website nearly 3X as much).

Good luck -- and as our July POH trip gets closer I'll hit your blackberry email to find out where you are stationed to say hey and maybe give you a STYLE card. :)

We stayed at both the Breakers and the Hawaiiana (right next door to each other). As the previous poster said, they are older properties, but at about $100 per night and a block form the beach, you can't beat the price!

Personally, I would stay at the Breakers again, but not the Hawaiiana, as we had an ant issue in our room there.

You are right they are very similar properties. I would not be affraid of either one. I never had an ant problem, but that is just or personal expierence.

Thanks for the tips everyone! The only problem with doing the bidding for a hotel is I need to be in a certain location. I have to be on the Pride Of America on saturday from 9-445. The cruise line is going to pay for my taxi from the hotel to the ship. Im only 19 so I dont want to spend alot of money on taxis. I enjoy the walk from the pier to waikiki so I would love to stay around the Hilton Hawaiian village. I'm debating between the Holiday inn, or this Aqua hotel across the street from the hilton hawaiian village.

We like the Ilima - small, clean, large rooms, on the Ala Wai Canal, about 4 blocks from the beach. Really nice 'kama'aina' hotel.
