Clearing Canadian Customs

Hi,

 

On the way back from our cruise to Hawaii we'll be connecting in Vancouver. Is this where we'll have to clear customs (we live in Calgary)? Will we need to claim our luggage and then check it back in, or how does this work?

You will have to clear customs in Vancouver before getting on your flight to Calgary.

 

First you will have to get your luggage, go through customs and then give your luggage back as the luggage desk/conveyor belt before going out of the customs hall and out to your next flight. Your luggage will already have been tagged for Calgary when you left Hawaii - so you are not "checking" it again - you are just handing it back.

 

It has been a couple years since I flew through YVR but I doubt the customs process for luggage has changed much.
