Nice hotels in Nice

Recommended Posts

We couldn't resist the headline. Seriously, we sail from Nice on Sunday. 11/7, and would like to arrive one or two days early. The hotel used by Windstar (Le Meridien) is priced ludicrously for November: $170 per person for the first night, with transfers. I think we could do better to pay the $75 "air deviation" fee and book our own hotels. Even 120 Euros per night, with breakfast, would be an improvement. That probably means a 3 star or very nice two star hotel.

Any suggestions? The Comfort Hotel Roosevelt is very cheap, but only two stars. The three Citadines look interesting (especially Fleurs and Promenade), and we could make our own salade Niceoise in our kitchenette; but they also seem a bit far from the pier. The Windsor and Gounod also sound good; but this is based solely on recommendations from Frommers. What we'd like are your recommendations.

We stayed at the 4 star Hotel Massena a few years back. It's in a very good position, a few doors down from Galleries Laffayette, and convenient for old town, promenade, and pedestrianised shopping area. Octopus are quoting it at $136 per room per night. Hope this is some help.
