beachbum6264 Posted August 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2004 We want to do the beginner's scuba in Grand Cayman but read a post somewhere about someone being turned down for medical reasons. Anyone know what kinds of questions they ask?
steveaaaa Posted August 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2004 They ask about health questions that could cause you to black out or have a heart attack ect. If you have a health issue then you might want to speak to your doctor or local scuba store and ask them about your condition. If you have non of the major health issues then go and enjoy your intro. beachbum6264 Posted August 10, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 10, 2004 I've had a couple of major surgeries this year, doc said I'm good to go, but wonder if I should get a letter from him stating I can dive????

Got docs? Posted August 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2004 We were on the Jubilee and my DH signed up the beginner scuba. One guy in our group had had back surgery and even had a note from his doctor saying he was OK (surgery was 1 yr. prior) and the person in charge of the excursion did not let him dive. They also ask about high blood pressure, asthma, glaucoma, bleeding problems, circulation problems, etc. Even with a doctor's note, the person in charge of the excursion has final say, not Carnival. The gentleman got his money for the excursion refunded.
imsulin Posted August 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 11, 2004 Very good post, Got docs? I'm a diver, and you're right about the Divemaster having the final say!

Stircrzy Posted August 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2004 ...and hopefully they can get you to medical facilities if you answer the questions "right" instead of "correctly". Medical problems in foreign ports are not fun. Divemasters are in charge for a reason...your safety.
steveaaaa Posted August 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2004 Who would listen to? Your own physician who said you were good to go, or some guy who has to turn away everyone who answers a yes to any question? This is not an ocean dive per say, this is a discovery/beginners scuba. The OP will be in shallow water not far from shore. Steve
