"Priceline" Hotel Help

Recommended Posts

Let me get this straight. You can only bid on a room for 2 adults? No children can be included in your bid!?! That knocks out a huge market of families.

If this is the case, I could not give Priceline a chance. Can you not contact the hotel to tell them you will be arriving with two children?

They only guarantee you bedding for two people but after you win your hotel you call and request beds for 4 people they will usually grant your request.

I always use priceline when we travel and have never been dissapointed. The money you save is incredible. I just got a hotel in downtown Columbus Ohio , don't laugh , there is a huge fireworks display every year on July 3 , hotels are anywhere from $120 and up. I got a Crowne Plaza walking distance to it all for $55. I just called the hotel and ask for 2 doubles and they said no problem.

As for San Juan we got the San Juan Hotel and Casino in Sept for $120, not the best deal I ever got but is a 4 star and its about $175 to book a room online.

I guess if you need to know the exact hotel and the exact location priceline is probably not for you.

what $$$price$$$ would you recommend to bid on priceline for the marriott beach spa and resort in fort lauderdale?

would love to stay there in Nov. for a 1 night pre-cruise

Depending on availabilty I would guess somewhere between $125.00 to $175. That would include all taxes and fees. Might be to early right now to start bidding, but it can't hurt to try. Just don't panic if you don't get it right off the bat, you still have plenty of time to try.

You have to keep in mind this resort starts at around $390 a night for dates in November.

I enjoyed reading this thread as I am going to Fort Lauderdale next January and need a precruise hotel. Would love to get Marriott, but I guess I need to reserve a safe hotel.

I have used Priceline for hotels in Puerto Rico and I haven't been disappointed. Usually get a nice hotel for less than 100 a night. The Marriott and the Caribe Hilton.

I guess I have some research to do.

Thanks everyone

I have used Priceline many many times and always gotten two beds when we took the kids and never called the hotel.

Yes you can call and tell them there will be more people but they will charge you $60 or $70 more dollars a night.. Now is it still a deal?

You have been very lucky. Priceline only guarantees a room for 2 people and in some cities, like NYC, you would not necessarily be able to get a room with more than 1 double (not queen or king) bed on a priceline bid purchase. Many of the NYC hotel rooms aren't even large enough for an extra rollaway;) And, yes, they could charge for a second room.

I have never used priceline but used hotwire once with a good result. Priceline says that the rooms will acccommodate 2 adults. What if you need a room for 5 (3 adults, 2 children)? This may be one of those examples where priceline isn't a good option. We obviously would need 2 beds at a minimum. I wouldn't want to show up and have a room with a king size bed.

While Priceline will only guarantee double occupancy, we have never had a problem, when, after completing the booking process we contacted the hotel in question, and made specific requests. Las October, we got the Hyatt Regency Downtown Miami and they were able to accommodate four and five guests in two of the three rooms we bid on:). The third room was just for my wife and myself and we were able to get a king size bed. Just a week ago, we got the Radisson Miami hotel and upon checking in, were able to secure a bay view room with king-size bed. Our bid for the Hyatt was $125 and for the Radisson -$65. At the time both hotels were offering their rooms for considerably more than those rates. We have even bid $40 and got the Marriott Biscayne Bay for two of our stays in Miami. Check out the websites mentioned and you can get an idea of what you need to bid to get a hotel in the area you want, and what price is most likely to be successful.:)

That has never been the case when we have done so. We have had no extra charge when we have had three or four adults and children (in one case, five) in a room, so it was definitely a deal.

 Who ever told you it was an extra $60 or $70 a night . Are you saying they charge for an extra room? My Daughters college job is with Priceline so I've heard it all but I never heard of that. There are actually ways you can cancel I could tell all of you but than I would have to kill you:D

I guess I won't take the chance with Priceline for our Fort Lauderdale cruise. But are you saying that Priceline is really only good if you have 2 people? The reason I'm asking is because I also need a hotel in Puerto Rico for next Spring Break. The prices are REALLY high so I was hoping to use some sort of discount site for a room pre-cruise. That room would only be for 4 people (2 adults, 2 children). Or should I just bite the bullet and book directly with the hotel. Thanks for your help.

PS: If you have any success Priceline stories for PR, I'd love to hear them. TIA! :D

We got the Caribe Hilton in PR for $65/night a few years ago. Right on the beach, really nice. We had two queens in the room, but as others have said, you don't have a choice. I have had great deals on Priceline. I always bid 4 star or resort and usually get a Hilton or a Hyatt.
