Love Cruis'n Posted May 21, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2007 Can I use TSA approved luggage locks when departing from Europe? I assume that if our flight originates here in the US, even if I’m changing planes in Frankfort, I can have my TSA locks on our bags, but when returning home – well before I assume, I thought I’d ask. Thanks,
ShipsandDipper Posted May 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2007 I've been told more than once by airline officials that it's only the US that opens your bag outside your presence, so using TSA locks in Europe poses no issues. I used one this weekend from Venice-Frankfurt-US and had no problem.

keep on cruising Posted May 21, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2007 I was also told that in Europe, you can use any lock. We used TSA from London to USA last summer without a problem - and this was during the time period when your one carry on could be no wider than 6 inches. I’m sorry - a 6 inch carry on  Now I have something else to wonder about – so where do I find out what the “carry on” restrictions are? Six inches – really? You must be kidding

On 10 August 2006' date=' [u']all[/u] carry on baggage was banned at UK airports - about the only items that could be carried on were travel documents and wallets. Even ladies' handbags had to be checked. On 14 August, when the threat level was reduced, small items of cabin baggage were once again allowed on board. The maximum permitted size was 45cm x 35cm x 16cm (about 17.5 x 13.5 x 5.8 inches). On 22 September, this was relaxed to allow the current size: 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (about 21.8 x 17.5 x 9.7 inches). Current UK restrictions can be seen on this page. BTW, you'll note that one item per person is permitted through the security checkpoint, and "one" means one.
