btobey Posted May 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2007 Has anyone done a Panama Canal cruise on Disney Magic? My husband and I are considering the Westbound cruise next May. We don't have kids, so I'm also interested in hearing about how well Disney handles adults-only travellers. Thanks, Beth
sweet tooth Posted May 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2007 I'm signed up for the Westbound next May and am traveling with a girlfriend. My husband is happy to skip this one. Neither of us have been on a Disney cruise but guess we'll have even more fun than we do at Disneyland. Part of the reason we chose this itinerary is we think there might be more adults, due to the length and price. Hope you sign up.

scottdvc Posted May 28, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2007 We did the eastbound repo on the Magic in August 2005. Probably the cheepest cruise we ever took it was under $1800 for 2 weeks of cruising. --all courtesy of Hurricane Jeane and Tom McAlpin. The port of LA gave us a great send off with fireboats making mickey ears on both our port and starboard sides and an escort fireboat and helicopters flying overhead. We missed our 1st port of Cabo (Hurricane Hillary) and went to Mansinilla(spelling)--very rustic port(not used to cruiseships). Loved Acupulco with the jet boat(booked this ourselves for $40 as DCL was charging $80 for the same excursion what FUN!! Canal day we got up at 4 a.m. to claim our seats on deck10 portside above the bridgewing. People were claiming their spots by5a.m. and the deck was standing room only at 6:30 they served continental breakfast in front of the sportsdeck. It does get really VICIOUS for a spot when you 1st enter the locks at 9:30a.m. Had a nice BBQ on deck9--they brought in special grills for cooking by the Goofy pool.--people got greedy with food while the rest of us stood in line-little food.--Topsider is open during this time also. The Panamanians LOVED the Magic since it was no ordinary cruiseship--1000's came out to see us and greet us with banners and waves. The ship was almost fined $250,000 because cruisers were throwing bedtime chocolates to the locals Cpt.Thom came over the ships pa and told us to stop throwing as the ship would be fined. Mickey,Roy& Patty Disney,Tom McAlpin were all onboard sailing with us. Patty really could woof down the hashbrowns during breakfast.-Ha Ha!! We received a special commemeratice PC book ,Lithograph, blanket for the sailing..We thought the cruise merchandise offerings were much to be desired. Curacou gave us 15 mins. at least fireworks as we left and Castaway Cay/ Port canaveral had Welcome Back Magic "we missed You" banners as we arrived home!! We are doing the Westbound Transatlantic this August and can't wait!! -82 more Days!! This past Sept wonders 11 night sailing we were asked to join the captain for dinner -how neat is that! We are known as Super DCL cruisers as this will be our 15th sailing mostly all on the Magic. ScottDVC
sweet tooth Posted May 28, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2007 Great to hear that another board member might be on the same trip! My husband and I are really tempted by this one but still need to research costs--did you get a good deal? I have a travel agent that gets me great prices, I understand the board rules are you're not supposed to list one but let me know if I can communicate with you directly. After she came up with the first cruise I booked through her, I searched all the discount web sites and they didn't offer anything lower and I didn't have to spend several hours doing the research. My friend and I booked the Magic the day it opened, prices might be different now, we went with a cat 9 room. Hope you book!

btobey Posted May 29, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted May 29, 2007 Scott, thanks for telling me about your experience! Sweet tooth, my father has been on tons of cruises, and he works with a travel agent who gets him great deals too, so I think we'd be able to swing something. Disneydance, I'm pretty sure this cruise is not sold out--where did you see that?
GoUODucks Posted May 30, 2007 #8 Share Posted May 30, 2007 Disneydance, I'm pretty sure this cruise is not sold out--where did you see that? This cruise did sell out on the first day. Staterooms do come open now and then, you just have to keep looking or have your TA keep an eye out. A couple of weeks ago their was space available and the cost was $2,000 more than the price we got on the opening day. As time comes to pay in full, most likely alot of staterooms will open up.
