Carnival Liberty Thread - All The Info You Need Is In Here

Sorry my clarification wasn't clear! Yes, all three dining room venues had open dining in San Juan. You would arrive at your assigned dining room and be seated upon arrival with whatever dining team was available at that moment.

Yes, when we booked our cruise we requested late seating. Upon arrival on the ship our Sign and Sail cards indicated we were assigned open dining on the 4th floor of the Golden dining room. We decided to give it a try. We were not too impressed with our dining team the first night, so decided to be seated wherever we were placed. We ended up with the same dining team for 4 nights, and did enjoy them. I talked to Dario, the maitre'd on the final night and he said that all servers were assigned a share of the tips for everyone who was assigned open seating. When you walk up to request seating, the hostess printed a slip which was handed to the head waiter with your cabin number on it. My guess is that these are turned in so that they could ensure proper reimbursement for gratuities. I did miss having an assigned dining team that knew my preferences, and I did miss my team participating in the entertainment. Other than that, it was pretty cool to go eat when you were hungry and have the opportunity to partake in tea time, sushi, etc. without worrying about ruining your dinner. Dario also said that Carnival is working toward dedicating one entire dining room to open seating while keeping the other for traditional dining in the future.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I requested Late and hope that we do not get switched to Open....if we are I would probably ask for a change....although on this particular sailing I will be with my mom and 2 of my kids so I might try it.....

Did anyone have any luck getting a lanyard from the casino?

We were on the Liberty last week, and were able to get a lanyard without problem from the casino

For the dining issue, in the Golden dining- the Mater'D does not seem to be very helpful with a lot of issues, I heard of a number of complaints about the Golden dining from various people on the cruise I spoke with, we had some problems with the MaterD too.

Anyone know what was done to the Liberty during the 08 refurbishment. We cruised her in 07 and was just wondering what was going to be different. The only thing I know for sure is that it now has mini golf.

I just got off the Liberty (02/07). I had a fabulous time. I chose open seating, got late seating and had it changed for the next day. I liked the open seating concept. I got to eat dinner when I was ready. The wait staff in open seating were okay. One head waiter, Phillips was not very friendly but he did he job and that what matters. As for the lanyards, I received one within the first 10 minutes I was in the casino.

This was my husbands first cruise and he loved it. You make it what you want. We had a server on the Lido deck (Mario/Indonesia), he was fabulous. He called us by name as soon as we met and he found us every day. We did not get to enjoy Ocho Rios as the sea swells were very bad and we could not get close to port. We ended up having another fun day at sea. I did not see the shows as we were not interested but we enjoyed the comedians.

Our room steward (Tan Tan) was wonderful Greeted us by name from day one. He was on the Empress Floor Port Side, Aft.

How much in advance did you request the open seating option? Did you request this when you booked or sometime after that? Just wondering if we will get our request for open seating. I requested it last month and our cruise is in April.. Also was it very difficult to get open seating? Why weren't you able to go to open sesating the first night? Also, how full was the open seating option? Thanks so much for answering all my crazy questions...

I chose late seating when I originally booked and changed it in November. They could not accomodate me the first night as there was alot of people trying to change times and tables. We new that we would be eating late so we were fine with the 8:15 seating. What was odd, we were on the main floor. They put us at a table of 6 and we were the only two there. There were two other tables by us with 2 people each.

What was odd is, the dining room never got busy. There was alot of open tables.

We truly enjoyed the open dining. We ate anywhere from 6:00 to 8:00. We truly was able to go to dinner, enjoy ourselves and then leave at our leisure.

I am a past guest but my friend who share my stateroom is not. Will she be invited also to the past guest cocktail?

No, you will be the only one who will receive an invitation.

They used to say "and guest" but i'm thinking the parties were getting to crowded so now they just have the past cruisers name on them.

Hello all Liberty fans...I am sailing the end of March and would love to see a copy of the capers for the western caribbean itinerary. Anyone know where I could find them? Thanks, Melissa

Do a google seach for Carnival Liberty Capers or

carnival Liberty activity pages. different variations of words will get you something.

But remember what you see posted might not be happening on your cruise.

Sailing Liberty in April. Can't wait! What about those secret doors?

Ther are unmarked doors on the front on decks 9 and 6 & 7 (I believe deck 8 is the bridge)that lead out to a small area on the bow of the ship...Just small decks above and below the bridge, great places for pictures sailing into a port....Dennis

Trying to decide between The Liberty on 10/31/09 or 11/14/09. Our 9 year old son will be with us. Anyone have any udea which sailing may have more children traveling? I do like the 11/14 ports beteer with a child so I'm leaning toward it but would love to have some input. Thanks!!!!

I'm sure the answer to my question is somewhere on this thread but with over 1500 I would be searching all day. Would like some info. on the Open Seating The Liberty now has? We usually do late but after a few Princess cruises really liked the Anytime Dining. The way theirs works is there is one dining room that remains traditional & two that are Anytime or Open. Does Carnival keep one dining room as the traditional times & uses the other one for Open? Thanks!!!!

We're sailing in less than 2 days on the Liberty! We can hardly wait! We're first timers and I think we would be totally lost if not for this site. My parents are jealous and it sounds like they'll be booking soon. I'm definitely gonna hook them up with this site.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Liberty so I can't wait to post a review when I get back. I hope my first timer review will help other first timers so keep an eye out around the 1st of March.

Cheers,

meldam

On our /1/17/09 Western cruise, traditional dining was in the Silver Olympian dining room and the lower level of the Golden Olympian. Anytime Dining was on the upper level of the Golden Olympian only.
