Anyone been to Boston, Portland, Halifax and Saint John with wheelchair? Any suggestions for tours or just getting around the port areas. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Karen

We were on this cruise on the Constellation last fall. I went with the sightseeing cruises that the ship recommended with the exception of Bar Harbor. Our CC group decided to go on a particular tour. I called them and alerted them about my husban's needs. They said "no problem" and between the group and the tour company, all went well. The tour buses always put my husband in the front. He was able, with help, to climb onto the buses.

BTW, this is a great cruise. Enjoy!

Assuming you do not wish to do the ship's shore excursions, in both Portland and Halifax you will dock close to the downtown area and if you don't feel you want to push a wheelchair, there are always plenty of cabs that will drop you in the heart of downtown. In Portland the first couple of blocks are uphill but then it levels off. In Halifax, once you get to the waterfront it is level with lots of restaurants and shops. But we usually hire a cab for an hour or so to drive us around, then drop us off in town and push back to the ship. In Boston, the pier is a couple of miles from places like Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall; there are some pretty decent shore excursions there taking you out to Cambridge and Harvard and through the historical part of Boston. Boston itself is quite compact so no great distances are involved if you choose to take a cab into town and then push around. Can't help with St John, not having been there in years. But if you are dealing with a foldup wheelchair and the hc person can climb 2 steps in to a bus, all shore excursions involving downtown sightseeing should be ok for you Just don't try somewhere like Peggy's Cove when in Halifax!:) :)

Peggy's Cove If you can find a tour that will take a wheelchair out there, you can certainly go, but do not expect to get much further than the parking lot. The lighthouse is built into huge boulders, but there are a few shops and cafes near the parking lot where you might take a wheelchair, but when we were there it was gravel and there were steps up into the buildings - maybe now it is paved and ramped. Suggest you check with the shore excursion people on board to find out what they know.:)
