How does Carnival handle onboard purchases? Is there one card that is used for everything(room key, buying drinks, etc.)?

Can I use that same card to get cash from the casino or pursers desk?

All transactions on board on done using the Sail & Sign card. Cash can only be used in the Casino and for Bingo.

You can get cash on your card in the Casino for a 3% surcharge. There are also 1 or 2 ATMs onboard.

You use your Sail and Sign card for all purchases. If you need extra cash it is best to get it from the Casino since you will be charged only 3%. If you get it from the Pursers desk the fee is 5%. When you get it from the casino you go to the cashier and tell them how much cash you want. They will then give you a slip of paper telling how much cash you want, you then take it to a table and give to dealer and they will give you casino chips in that amount. Then you take those chips to the cashier and cash them in. The amount will then be charged to your sail & sign card. It's cheaper to do it that way that to go to the Purser.

The charge will show on your Sail & Sign card as "entertainment".

You can also insert your Sail & Sign card into the slot machines & get cash that way, with the 3% charge.

Some of the older ships still have a seperate keycard for your cabin door.

Wouldn't it come out as coins though?

NO. You set up an account on your S&S card. You can add your winnings or cash to that account. Take your card to the Casino Cashier & cashout......for cash, American money :) or continue to use it to play.
