Marie-Claude Posted April 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Hi all and thanks for providing so much great feedback on your experiences in Alaska! This makes our trip planning so much more fun! My question: We were looking at a Princess excursion that combined Mendenhall glacier and the Salmon Bake. After researching, I think we'll take the bus to Mendenhall, which wil allow us more time to spend at the visitor's center. I'd still like to go the the Salmon Bake - how easy would it be to do on our own?? Can we catch a bus from downtown, or directly from Mendenhall?? Any information on how to get there, and the cost of the salmon bake would be great! Thanks! PH8 Posted April 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Heres what we are doing.............. first you get a tour of Juneau and the area, then Mendenhall...............then the salmon bake.all for only $42 PP.......looks like a good deal to me......... http://www.mightygreattrips.com/Tour_Specials_3.htm BTW~~you do have to come back downtown to catch a bus to the salmon bake........none run right from mendenhall.. Budget Queen Posted April 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2004 If you want the shuttle to/from Mendenhall. Then pick up the salmon bake bus back downtown. Makes continous loops. This would give you the most flexability for your touring.
ajdegumbia Posted April 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2004 I have booked a group with MGT for the exact tour. It also includes a city tour before going out to the glacier. So far, they have been great to deal with.

Sandy R Posted April 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 19, 2004 The salmon bake that Parrothead8 is talking about... are reservations required or can we just hook up with one on the pier when we're back from whale watching tour and seeing the Mendenhall Glacier o our own. We really can't pre-book a salmon bake because we won't know until we've done everything else, what our timing will be... Sandy
PH8 Posted April 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 19, 2004 There are buses near the pier that run back and forth all day long(according to what I have read on here).............so you can just catch one when you are ready...
