FLL 2/22/08-2/24/08 what is going on?

I have been looking for a pre-cruise hotel in FLL for 2/22/08-2/24/08 and the prices are really really high. I am guessing there is something going on that weekend. What is it?

Nothing is going on except peak Tourist Season in Florida- February and March, every year. There is a boat show in Feb, also, I believe.

We booked a hotel for the exact dates for a very large group and had a hard time getting good rates. We finally got Extended Stay on 17 St, close to the pier but the prices have gone way up now. We were glad we booked when we did. It is always a mess there at that time and you need to book air and hotel way in advance to get better rates.

Nothing special, typical rates during high season. A matter of supply and demand.
