ronjj66611 Posted June 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2007 We've been allocated an FO room (8267) directly above the nightclub on Galaxy. Does anyone know whether or not noise will be a problem in this room? Thanks, Ron
SophieT Posted June 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2007 You DO NOT want this room!!!!!! We just got off the Galaxy on Monday, June 11, and had room 8267! It was the worst room we have ever had in our 15 cruises! The noise is beyond words! The noise from the nightclub is not bad, but there is a TERRIBLE problem with vibration and extremely loud noise! If the ship is scheduled to dock at say 7:00 a.m., you can figure on being literally jolted from your bed about two hours prior! We are a family of four, and the first time, our girls thought the ship was sinking. The glasses and other items on the counter actually ended up on the floor, it was so bad. So, be forewarned! On a positive note, the room was quite spacious for the four of us, but I don't think it was worth it, and would NEVER book this room again. Last summer, we had a room on NCL's Pride of America across the back of the ship, and you could hear a pin drop, so it must just be this ship. Good luck! chessbriar Posted June 14, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2007 We stayed in cabin 8269 right next door. Noise from the nightclub wasn't bad at night. We did hear the band practicing one morning. The vibration is an issue. It does happen each morning as you come into port. It's short lived, but enough to wake you abruptly. I often just went back to sleep. Sophie, Comparing the Galaxy with the Pride isn't a good comparison. Older ships, 10 years or more, used a drive shaft to their propellers. It's the reversing of the propellers as you come into port is why the vibration happens. Late 90s ships started changing over to using electric motors and pods. There is not a drive shaft as there was in the past. Pods provide a much smoother ride and better control of the ship. The Pride being a newer ship has the pods. That being said, after having the aft cabin on the C class ships I would book it again any time. The added space was wonderful and the morning wake up shake was only a minor inconvenience. mho Posted June 14, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2007 We were also on the cruise that ended Monday 11th June and had a great time. We were in 9212 and there is severe vibration anywhere in the rear of the ship when it is arriving or leaving port but it does not usually last for very long. If you want to mimimise noise/vibration then you need a cabin near the bow. Apart from the early morning wake up call the Galaxy is still a wonderful ship and the service is superb.
