Replace Johnny Rockets with In-n-Out burger

Recommended Posts

In Upstate NY, Outside of Albany, in Troy, We have this Tiny Burger Joint called Jack's. Only Open when the Owner returns from Florida in the Spring and Closes in the Fall when the Owner gets cold. Tiny little Patties (Probably Horsemeat) On Squished Rolls Topped with Katsup, and Fried Onions Served with Cheese Fries. Same thing they served for 60 years. The Burgers are called Sliders by anyone who's ever had one. The Line is always across the Parking lot. For me - it's a Spring Ritual.

IN-N-OUT burgers are available in CA, NV and AZ.

To visit one of these states and not do an IN-N-OUT burger joint (extra onions please) is a sin!

FATBURGERS are not even a close second.

Burp... belch...

Sounds like your guy is importing 'dem White Castles. Or buying the frozen ones from the local A&P and passing them of as JACKS before they pass through you!

As we are finding out there are a lot of good burgers out there.Living near the beach we have lots of good local burgers and avoid the chains.During the off season OCT-APR we have half price burger nights usually MON or TUE and for four bucks you get burger/fries and maybe slaw.Go before 7pm and the beer is happy hour prices. The best burger I ever had was at a place called "rays Ranch House' in Hyattsville,MD.After he flipped them he topped them with a great BBQ sauce then added cheadder cheese.Best burger by far.He retired and the new owner changed things and soon after the place went belly up.I make my own version for guest and get raves. Now if you want to talk Maryland Crab Cake Sandwich no large chain makes a good one.........Frank:)

Now, I'm hungry for an In-n-Out burger!!!! My sis used to live in the LA area and we would go there every time I went to visit. Have only had JRs on the ship and I like In-n-Out better. I'd vote for the change.

For some reason Connecticut is always last to get all the good places....if at all *LOL*

Took forever to get a Krispy Kreme up here. JR just got here a few months ago.

i may well be dead or not have any teeth left to eat by the time we get a Sonic, In and Out Burger, or Fat Burger.

Just curious, Thinking about a few chains we had around here throughout the years that are long gone (at least here)

Does anyone have any of the following near them.

Hardees

Wetsons

Geno's

Super Chef

Walt's Roast Beef

Enquireing minds want to know *LOL*

Slightly OT but I have to ask....Andsail, do you think Cut Above Hoagies will ever find there way to a cruise ship? Hope so. It's our ritual to exit the blue route on the way to the airport AND on the way home to Newtown Square to pick up a Cut Above.

I have never tried that place. Dh and I always look for new places to go for a good hoagie. Now I can tell him that I found a place thanks to you!!!!:) What other local spots do you like?

" Parrothead8 - we are getting a Backyard Burger place?? Any input on that one???"

Its been about 5 years, but IMHO they put out a decent burger and have many specialty burgers with some interesting combinations.

I haven't read past your post here, so someone else may have talked about BY burgers. My husband "discovered" Backyard Burgers recently waaaay across town where he works. He just loves it. He's taken me there for lunch now a couple of times, and I must say, the burgers ARE very very good. Aside from being so tasty, one thing I like is they aren't those gi-normeous, big as your head, things. It's just a "normal" size burger. I wish they would open one up here closer to where we live. Try it out when it opens; if you're a burger fan, you'll probably love it.

Sorry andsail, only know about Cut Above. I transplanted from Delco about 40 years ago, now live in Berks County. Ick. It is impossible to get a good roll let alone a good hoagie here. The most popular hoagie shop here asks you if you want a soft or hard roll with your hoagie...Soft roll is like a hot dog roll. So sad. :(

You have to get to Cut Above early...they run out of bread and then stop making hoagies. The bread comes from Sarcones from S Philly. Enjoy!

We truly ARE the last ones to get everything here! If I see ONE more Sonic commercial I'm going to scream!! Where is there a Sonic around here? I'd really like to know because their slushy things look really yummy.

As for the OP question, I'm a vegetarian so I like that JR has the Streamliner (veggie burger) but uh, Burger King has a better veggie burger. Everytime I eat Johnny Rockets I feel like I'm going to die soon after, so I'd pretty much replace it with ANYTHING. We have one in the casino that I work in - whenever I pass by it I get a little queasy.

Ok,Ok...........apparently,you West Coasters have the best burgers........so,why do you need the Mariner too??;) You think you can have it ALL????:p

OK, I've only read till here, so excuse me if anyone has suggested this yet.

How about an In-N-Out on the Mariner when it gets to the West Coast :D

I've only been to a JR once, in the Irvine Spectrum, it was crowded, noisy, I sat at the counter and had what I considered one of the worst meals of my life.

I don't eat burgers often, my DH doesn't eat meat, but In-N-Out has had a great burger in the past. It almost sounds like franchising is destroying the quality, if the ones in Arizona are skimpy. Their burgers have always been thick and juicy. I'll have to go again soon to check them out!

I don't get the burger loyalty or manic fan base. Of course I've never had an In & Out burger and don't like, Johnny Rockets. I know, shame on me.

Now, if there was a place that served really great salads to go (and not a salad bar salad, yuck), I'd be the first one in line. Until then, I have to make my own ;)

I vote they dont have a hamburger joint on a ship at all. The hamburgers and fries are the same as getting them in the Windjammer. They dont use anything different or special. Some say you get a show but number one that is hit and miss and number two it is kind of beat and annoying when they do try to sing (while my burger is getting cold). If they bring and IN and OUT burger or equivilent on board and they use specific ingredients that differ than the buffet then I will change my stance.

I live in AZ and the burgers hven't gotten any smaller here than they were when I first discovered them in SO Cal in 1983. I have some some quality control problems since franchising in that very occasionally, the burgers aren't cooked enough.

But that being said - they are the best! There is a secret that someone pointed out, and for those of you who aren't familiar with In-N-Out, you won't find this on the menu - order it animal style!

Besides the yummy extras you get on the burger - they actually put mustard on it before they put it on the grill. Now I am not a huge mustard fan, but something about what they do when they cook that mustard in really makes a difference of the flavor of the burger.

Double/Double animal style - there is no better burger out there. PS - Double/Double means double meat / double cheese on a regular bun, so no extra bread in there for the etra layer of meat/cheese.

It is interesting about cooking the fries well done. I never feeling guilty about ordering the double/double, because I don't eat the fries. I may have to order a cheeseburger next time and try my fries well done. Thanks for the tip.

I stated I'm not a hamburger lover, but...

Johnny Rockets burgers are vastly different from the overcooked, heat lamped, often dry burgers they serve in the Windjammer. The fries cannot begin to compete and the onion rings are not offered at all. Johnny Rockets can serve cooked to order. They're feeding far fewer people. I've found JR's to be mostly innocuous. They're not smack in the middle of the ship. You've got to look for them. I'm not a fan, but they don't bother me by being there.

My parents live in Newtown Sq. And back OT I would vote for Checkers. I used to work for a bakery in Mobile back in the mid eighties and delivered to the very first Checkers. Since then they moved their HQ from Mobile to Miami(?) and started franchising. They are all over now. Best fries and best banana shake.

The Windjammer is heaven... that is... have you ever been to the the Solarium on the Vision Family (maybe others too) of ships?

Back there... in the late evening, they open a hole in the wall from which comes limp hot dogs, slate rock burgers (some with cheese) and industrial quality shingle pizza attended to by someone who obviously doesn't want to be there. We're not sure just what is behind the hole in the wall...

Heh heh heh...

I''m sure if they had In 'n' Out burgers on the ship fans would be disappointed.Wouldn't have the same source or freshness or quality control. Its funny but burgers/fries were better on X than RCL.you would think they'd be the same. There is so much good free food on the ship to charge a premium seems a shame.I like getting foods anyway that you can't get at home.it seems no matter what town you visit they have the same national chains.Next time out west I'll have to try one of the IN and Outs ..........Frank

The burgers in JR are much better than those served in the WJ. They are fresh, juicy and hot. Also the fries are much better and of course you get onion rings at JR's. I have no problem with JR's on the ship.

Just a little comment on this, In N Out is good, when I started cruising and discovered my greatest joy was eating from one end of the ship to the other. I gave up fast food. Calorie exchange. Hamburgers also are not on the top of my food choices so I would never pay for one on a ship. Now I brown bag at work and dream of a week or if lucky two of total food.

My food control on a cruise is I allow myself to go all out the first breakfast, then oatmeal the rest of the mornings.
