Noticed on Cruise-cal that four ships will be in port the day we are at Grand Caymans. Have excursion scheduled at 9am not booked with Carnival. How hard is it to get off ship in time for excursion?

Hope you have better luck getting off your Carnival ship than we did. We were on Carnival Miracle 2 years ago & Carnival was only allowing passengers that had booked excursions through the ship off as first priority. We had a private tour booked in Belize & needed to get off the ship ASAP, they told us no we had to wait. Needless to say, we were over an hour late for our tour as were many passengers on board & were not happy.

We were there this May and found getting off the ship fairly easy...tender boat lines weren't all that long and we got there in plenty of time for our 9 am tour.

Coming back...different story....started to pour rain just as our tour ended..carnival put up some little tent things to help...but they were open sided and we got soaked!!! (can't remember the company but another ship...one of the more expensive ones didn't put up any protection for their passengers...lots came to huddle under our shelter lol) The wait was very long...I think they were waiting to send tender boats until the water settled down a bit...but we were still wet from swiming with the stingrays so we didn't care...as I said to hubby...standing in the rain in Grand Cayman is better then standing in the rain at home. Most people were very patient...lots of joking around in the lines...the worst thing was that, even though it was pouring it was still very warm, but once you actually made it to the ship...bam...there's the air conditioning and you're soaked and now freezing...ran to the room and hit the shower to warm up!!

Ok...I've been rambling...the point of your original question was..no...we had no problem getting there on the tender...no one asked us which excursion we were going on or anything...simply first come first serve. Just get there as early as you can...trust me there will be something to do like shopping if you arrive early for your excursion.

Have fun

We found it very easy to get off. But we got an early start. We had a 9:00 AM, non CC excursion on Atlantis Sub. We got off at 7:45, thinking that there would be a line. There was none. It was confusing however because we got off at 7:45 (ship time) which was 6:45 Cayman time, and our tour started at 9:00 Cayman time. So we had some time to kill. Found a coffee shop and time flew by just fine.

The return is however a LONG line to get back on the ship. It stretched to what appeared to be 3 city blocks. It did however move along, as our wait was only about 30 to 40 minutes.

Enjoy your trip...We sure did!
