waitlisted excusions

There are some excursions we have put in for that are full and are waitlisted. How do we know if they open up? Will we know before we leave our house. Also I heard that you have to cancel so many days before if you decide not to do an excursion. Does anyone know how many days before and what about cancelling the waitlisted ones?

Thanks

First, cancellations are usually allowed up to about 24hrs beforehand. Then I suppose they go to the wiating list and begin awarding the cancelled trips from the top down.

Many ports, especially in the Caribbean have plenty of tour organizers at the port and you can usualy get one there for about half the ship's price. If you are headed to St. Petersburgh in Russia, or Istanbul or Athens (many European ports it seems) this is not always the case.

As far as cancelling, it will be no problem as long as you return the ticket(s) prior to the cut off time (which probably is the 24 hrs mentioned above).

As far as the waitlisted tours, you should check as soon as you board, and get your request in if they open up. Some tours they will be able to add additional buses for instance and take more people. For a popular tour such as a helicopter ride, or plane ride, those have a finite number that can be booked, and once they fill, they have no more capacity.

Suggest you book (or plan) a second choice..... and cancel if the one(s) you want open up.

Since most need to be cancelled 24 hours beforehand, make sure to keep checking with the shore excursion office once you board. We have found many shore excursions will open up after the 24 hour cut off, even though they have been waitlisted. Don't loose hope on those you really want to join, chances are, there will be space for you when those that change their minds cancel.

The one thing about Princess compared to some other lines, since passengers don't pay for their shore excursions until they are onboard the ship, many book things they don't intend on going on, expecially since it is so simple to cancel them after they are on the ship.

Check your personalizer as you will be automatically put on a tour you are now waitlisted on... friends on Alaska sailing with us were waitlisted for Skagway tour (there were 8 of them I think) and they all cleared the waitlist within 2 weeks of getting on it and about a month before we left. Then they just cancelled (online) the "back up tour" they had booked.
