Dumb Legend Questions

Have sailed with Disney twice--time to try Carnival. Am heading out on the July 22 Legend sailing.

Couple of questions:

What is the earliest we can board the ship? Need to coordinate the Hyatt departure and the rental car.

How about Internet access and cost? I work (a lot) and the laptop is going with me. Should I take it to port and tap into a free internet at Starbucks? (I've done this at other ports).

Soda/soft drinks - what's the policy? Are they "free" anywhere?

Luggage delivery: Can I tag a case or two of water? Will they deliver it or confiscate? Also, what time does Carnival get the luggage delivered?

Shore Excursions: I booked a dolphin swim in Cozumel directly with the supplier (not with CCL). It is at 10am local time. When the itinerary says the ship docks at 9am, is that local time or ship time? (I'd assume that 9am ship time is 8am local).

Dining room: Will my 12 y/o son need a suit? Or will a shirt and tie be sufficient?

Thanks!

You're right! These are dumb questions. Frankly when someone announces in their heading that they are asking a dumb question, then they deserve nothing less than a dumb or sarcastic response.

If you said, "innocent question", folks might be more amenable to answering.

I remember a teacher who once said, "there are no dumb questions". Well, she was wrong.

Questions are not dumb.....

We got there at 10:45 and we're onboard by 11:30am. However you can't get to you cabin until about 1:00pm so not carryon much

Internet on board is pretty pricey....that is why I take my husband cruising, so he CAN'T work..hahaha

Ship always stay on Home Port time...so you will always be on EST. Depending when you cruise, You have to take into account for DaylightST sometimes also.

You can buy your kid a soda card, bring some soda, or make him drink the free punch or lemonade....I checked water and soda with no problem but it was in a suitcase.....

THis is a great cruise...we went 5-6-07...have a blast!

A tie is plenty for a 12 yr old.

Rinderoo, don't let that posters sarcastic response deter you from asking questions on this board. They just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. In my opinion, NO question is dumb if you don't know the answer.:)

Internet isn't free. Here is the info from the Carnival site

To utilize the internet service, the below options are available. Please note that the internet pricing options are identical, whether an Internet Café terminal is utilized, or a laptop. All internet access charges will be billed directly to the guest's onboard “Sail & Sign” Account:

An initial one-time Activation Fee of $3.95 applies to each user.

A basic time charge of $0.75 per minute (“Pay-As-You-Go”) is available. Minutes are rounded to the next full minute.

Discounted “Time Plans” offer guests the opportunity to enjoy a lower per-minute rate. These Time Plans do not have to be used in a single session and can be used anytime throughout the cruise until debarkation; No refund for unused minutes; Upgrading selected pricing option is not available. Plans are subject to change.

Cruises 7 days in length and longer:

100 minutes for $55.00 ($0.55 per minute)

250 minutes for $100.00 ($0.40 per minute)

Cruises less than 7 days in length:

30 minutes for $16.50 ($0.55 per minute)

60 minutes for $24.00 ($0.40 per minute)

To rent a Wireless Radio Card for a guest's personal laptop, the rate is $10.00 per day; Optional insurance is $3.00 per day.

A limited number of laptops are available for complimentary use with Time Plan purchase; optional insurance is $10.00 per day.

Soda isn't free either. You can get one of those soda cards. Here is what it says from the Carnival website.

We will offer to all guests the option to purchase a "Fountain Fun Card" which will allow them unlimited soft drinks for the duration of the cruise at a one time purchase price (including gratuities). The "Fountain Fun Card" can be purchased at the casino, lobby and pool bar onboard the ship. In all locations where beverage service is offered, guests may receive a glass of the soft drink of their choice - one glass will be served at a time and only to the guest whose name appears on the card. The card cannot be used through room service.

NOTE: A 15% gratuity will automatically be added on at the time of purchase of the Fountain Fun Card.

And with regard to your 12 y/o dress. Here is also what it says from the website.

Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Formal Wear: tuxedo (optional); suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit Casual Resort Wear: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit NOTE: Shorts, t-shirts and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner.

Have a great trip. :D

Welcome to Carnival!:)

Soda/soft drinks - what's the policy? Are they "free" anywhere?

No. You can bring on a reasonable amount from the homeport and also from the ports you visit. I'll post the list of comp beverages.

Luggage delivery: Can I tag a case or two of water? Will they deliver it or confiscate? Also, what time does Carnival get the luggage delivered?

They will deliver the water to your cabin; time of arrival is anyone's guess. I've had my luggage delivered within an hour or so after I board.

Dining room: Will my 12 y/o son need a suit? Or will a shirt and tie be sufficient?

A suit and tie for formal night would be nice; however, a dress shirt and tie would suffice. Other evenings, he would need to wear long pants like khakis, and collared shirt like a polo, no tees.

Ooops...here's the beverages - something I posted awhile back:

Beverages included in the cost of your cruise:

Lido buffet area - Iced tea, hot water & tea bags, coffee, decaf, hot chocolate, juice varieties, water, lemonade, fruitpunch. On buffet, milk, skim milk, chocolate milk.

Dining room - Iced tea, hot tea, coffee, water, decaf, milk, chocolate milk, juices, espresso and cappuccino.

Room service - MOST of the beverages that are available on Lido, but not lemonade or fruitpunch.

Just so you know- they also have a roll call going for each trip. I am also going on the 22nd of July on the Legend also. I may bump into you because I have a 13 year old son. Check out the roll call for our trip. You can also do a search for questions that you have on this site and get lots of info that way. Good luck!
