Fortress of Louisbourg - how strenuous is "strenuous?"

Recommended Posts

Our tour book refers to the Fortress of Louisbourg as being a "strenuous tour" and suggests "appropriate footwear" but does not specify what that is. As we are finally packing for next week's cruise :) -- what would those of you who have visited recommend? Sneakers? My very comfortable Easy Spirit loafers that take me over cobblestone every day? Boots?

TIA.

hi Lisa,
We have done the Louisbourg tour. Jogging shoes are good. Anything comfortable. There are not a lot of hills. It is just the amount of walking that you have to do from one portion of the site to another. It is a very large site.
Incidentally, the National parks employees here have started rotating srikes so lets hope Louisbourg is not affected.

Not streneous in my opinion (I am 25) but you need very comfy shoes. I would personnally opt for running shoes. You have to walk but at your own pace. If some areas are too far for you, you can stay in the main area where there is many different things to see.

Thank you both. We do a lot of walking at home, so we will wear the shoes that are already broken in. I am glad to hear there are few hills. I was envisioning climbing over rocks a la Peggy's Cove. :)
