"From Shore" spots in Tahiti

I am going on the PG in the fall and I have signed up for a couple of snorkel excursions but I want to go and do some snorkelling (with my dive buddy) away from the maddening crowd. Can anyone suggest some "from shore"areas ???? Also are the "from shore" areas rocky? Do I need dive booties???

Thanks I appreciate any info that will make this a memorable trip.
