This is an extremely long thread and this card's rules and offers and in some cases everything about it has changed a lot over the last 7 years. That being said, I did look back to Sept.2012 and didn't see anything posted regarding this and I searched for "two cards" and didn't find a topic started.

Has anyone applied for two NCL cards, one for you and one for your spouse, and applied the bonus credit from each card to the same stateroom? I'm not talking about getting one account and having two cards issued for it, one with your name and one with your spouses name.

It would be nice if my wife and I could get two separate NCL credit card accounts and that both of us could apply the 10,000 points for OBC to the same stateroom thus giving us $200 in OBC for the cruise in addition to the OBC NCL gave us when we purchased the cruise.

I did call and talk to BofA WorldPoints and asked them if it was possible. They said it's possible to get two separate accounts and transfer the points from one account to the other if your spouse was listed as a co-applicant on the account you are listed as the primary. But my opinion is that when it comes to credit cards and banks, nothing is possible until it's been done. So has anyone done this?

My husband and I both got a NCL MasterCard and were told we wouldn't be able to combine the points on them since we didn't co-sign on each other's card (as we were both trying to get the promotional points). What we decided to do was reach 25,000 points on one card (mine) and redeem it for $250 cash and use the other 15,000 point card (his) for $150 on board credit. Worked like a charm ;)

My husband and I have separate NLC cards. Please explain how we can use the points from both cards if they won't let us combine them? Should I add his name to my account and mine to his?

We didn't actually combine our points -- I used "mine" and he used "his" -- we just made all of our bigger purchases (i.e. the cruise itself) on my card and waited to redeem my points until they reached 25,000. You can always redeem your points at any time for cash instead of onboard credit, but usually (if it's less than 25,000) it's for a lower $ amount than what you'd get for OBC. Once you reach 25,000 you can either get $250 in cash or $250 in OBC.

We went with the $250 cash because we also wanted to use my husband's points for our upcoming trip (we were told we couldn't combine them) -- so we did that for OBC because his isn't anywhere near 25,000 points. Now we'll take the $250 we got from my card and use it as extra spending money on the boat/in port in addition to his OBC. So in a roundabout way we were able to combine them -- does that make sense?

It was an extremely easy process in terms of redemption. The $250 was deposited into our account within a day and the OBC was applied immediately.

Are you certain that you are not able to combine the points? I had 2 cards (at BOA) with World points, and just transferred the points from one card to the other online. Then I took the cash and ran!

Were both of the cards in one name? I understand the issue to be that one of the cards is in my name and the other is my husband's, and we are not on each other's account. I don't know if we called to add each other to our own account would help?

Also, neither of these cards has enough points for $250. It was my understanding when we signed up for the cards that as soon as you make your first purchase using the new card, you would get 10,000 points, good for $100 of on board credit. I guess I'm not understanding the details of the offer? I did think that sounded too good to be true.

Yes, you need to be an authorized user on the acct you are transferring to and from. No biggy, you can do that with a phone call

Yes, you need $250 to transfer, although you can redeem at the $100 level, but you will not reoceive the full 1% return in doing so. If you want to combine, take the card with the largest point balance and use it exvlusively until you have $250 then transfer to the other card. Will be eadier to do once you are authorized users and each have a card on the accts.

UGH! Our cruise is just 3 weeks away so I won't be able to reach $250 on either card by then. One account has approx. 15,000 points and the other should be a little over the initial 10,000, although we have yet to receive a bill on the second one yet. So if I add our names to each other's card, can I combine these points for $250 on board credit?

WAIT A MINUTE. Brain fart alert.

I misspoke - you dont need to transfer $250 - you need to transfer 2,500 points. Duh, so if you have 10,000 in one card youcan transfer it to the other.

However, I think the points have to have posted to your statement before you can transfer them. So, Depending on your billing cycle you may or not make it.

Sorry for the confusion. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

  • 2 weeks later...

You can redeem 5,000 points for a $50 OBC, 10,000 for $100 OBC, 25,000 for $250 OBC.

So if you have 15000 points get a $50 OBC and a $100 OBC. If you have 10,000 points you can get $100 or just use 5,000 for the $50 There is no advantage saving to 25,000 points since those 25000 point get you $250 in OBC. You can redeem them in 5000 points increments ($50 OBC per 5000) without any type of penatly.

On the BoA web site my card shows that I have a little over 15,000 points. My husband's card shows 0, his first bill will be posted tomorrow the 8th. According to the offer he signed up for, he should have at least the initial 10,000 points plus maybe a few hundred more from using the card. We obviously want to use all of these points for OBC, our cruise is on the 18th. Do I need to combine the points or can I use them separately from 2 different accounts for $150 & $100 OBC? How soon before the cruise do I have to have this accomplished? Do we have to make the payment before using the points?

No need to combine accounts or points. You can call now and have your points redeemed for an OBC now and when his are posted you can call again.

Do we have to make the payment before using the points?

It looks like the points are accumulated as you charge not as you pay...

I found their statement kind of confusing though... because if you use the card for paying NCL .. the "bonus" extra point becomes a separate line item. My first statement cut a couple of days ago though and I did get the 10,000 signing bonus :D +

I just wish they had put 1,734 for my monthly earnings.. because the 10,000 is already accounted for on another line item.

It read as follows

11,734 Monthly Earnings (*10,000 +850 NCL + 34 "other")

*10,000 Bonus Points this month (signing bonus)

850 NCL Bonus Points (Paid $850 towards my 2014 cruise)

11,734 Total Points Available

I still have a "balance" of $550 on my card to pay by the end of the month.. so I am not paid up...yet it shows all of my points as being available to use.

Points are available to use as soon as they have been incorporated into a monthly statement. You can see all of your points as they accumulate, but cannot redeem them until they have been rolled up in a statement period.

Yep, left that part out.. but it's not too different than most CC reward programs... can't use 'em til the statement cuts. But they don't care if you pay the balance or not to access all of your points through the statement period.

what's the rules with using the NCL credit card to put a down payment on a NCL cruise and then continuing to use it to make payments?

is there a fee?

do these "purchases" earn points?

thanks!

Using the NCL card for a sailing or anything sold by NCL will earn you double points. Anything else you charge on the card will be single.

Here is the link

http://www.ncl.com/world-points

Here's what I did.

I signed up for the card in just my name. The offer was for 10,000 points to be credited to my account after making the first purchase. When the card arrived, I used it to charge my cruise. When my first bill came I had over 15,000 points.

Then my husband applied for a card in his name. I read here that in order to combine the points both names have to be on each account so we called to add each other's name to each other's account. I'm not sure if that was necessary, but it was not hard to do with a simple phone call, so we did it.

He used his card for a few things and his first bill was posted on 5/8 showing a little more than 10,000 points. I then went online and combine the points from both accounts bringing my total points to over 25,000.

Next, I went to the Freestyle Rewards section on the BoA website. I clicked on the $250 on board credit for 25,000 points. There was a phone number there to call to redeem the offer. Within a few minutes I received an email confirming that $250 has been added to my on board account. Probably the easiest $250 I ever earned!

Do you call BofA before the cruise and say something like....I am on the Pearl 12/8 and would like my 25000 points to go to obc for that ship on that date? Do you make the ship reservation (via NCL or Casino or TA) and then contact BofA? Is there a certain amount of time to contact BofA before the cruise? Thanks for "timing info".

I used an online travel agency to book my cruise and charged it to the BoA NCL card for double points. The points must be posted on your bill before you can redeem them. You only need about 2 months before your cruise to make it work so if your cruising 12/8 you have plenty of time to accomplish this and accumulate more points. The points are very quick and easy to redeem by calling the number on the website.

Thanks...I understand about the points. Questions are about timing...do you book cruise and then once cruise is booked, tell BofA you want obc on that ship this date?

Yes, when I called BoA to redeem my points they asked me for my booking number.
