Zippeedee Posted April 20, 2017 #4151 Share Posted April 20, 2017 Am I missing something here? If I leave my points on my account, pay for all of my on-ship expenses with my NCL Mastercard, then move points to a cash credit on my account, I'll earn three points per $ on the charges. If I move my points to OBC, I come home without a bill, but no more points. Yes? It seems too good to be true. I know about the upgrades but don't think I'll hit $60,000 in time. TifffanyD Posted April 21, 2017 #4153 Share Posted April 21, 2017 Has anyone who used the points upgrade to a balcony gotten an upgrade advantage email? Do they treat you as a balcony when bidding for upgrade or do they treat you as the level you paid for?

BarBug Posted April 21, 2017 #4155 Share Posted April 21, 2017 Question is about using points for a double meta upgrade 2 years from now, with points beginning to expire in one year. What would happen if I have to cancel the cruise prior to full payment? Would my points expire on cancellation?

waterbabies7415 Posted April 23, 2017 #4157 Share Posted April 23, 2017 Hello, We are NCL cruisers who purchased the cc. As of today we have 39,930 points. Since I've paid the charges we've made this month they show as 'pending'. Am I to understand that I need to wait until they have posted before I contact World Points Reps? Has anyone used points for their children to sail free? 40,000 pts. Is there anything I need to know before I call asking for kids to sail free? We want to book a balcony cabin but only if the kids are free. So, since July sailings are less than 90 days and we are in the final payment time frame I'm hesitant to book until after I speak with the World Points agent. Any advice? Thanks so much, Kim

Thanks so much, Kim I have not used my points for children sailing free so I can't help with that question. In terms of the points being available for you to use, you have to wait until they post to your account when your billing cycle ends for the month. After your statement closing date you can call the world points rep to apply them.
Rare mscdivina2016 Posted April 23, 2017 #4159 Share Posted April 23, 2017 I did it recently. They treat you as a balcony. So, you'll be able to bid on mini suites & Haven. So how did that work exactly? All my confirmations show "Complimentary upgrade" when I use double meta upgrades. So mini suites or Haven would be based on my inside pricing. You are the 1st I have ever known who has been able to bid. I have used over 1,000,000 points over the years. Your upgrade wasn't priced backwards was it? (meaning you booked Balcony and then called and they kept your balcony but repriced down) Also my perks are/were always based on original category, so if I have an inside, double meta up to Balcony I still only got 1 perk since I paid for an inside, but if I am able to bid on Haven, I could get all the perks then since they wont be able to exclude some of them...I think? Thanks so much, Kim Yes you need to wait till they post and you need the full 40,000 as earned before you call. There is no issue using points as long as you have them. They don't care, they just redeem them. When you have the 40K, call world points to book and redeem in same call. World points is at NCL so they are sort of one and the same. I have used double meta upgrades, kids sail free, birthday decorations, and OBC all in the same cruise.:D Steve
terri910 Posted April 23, 2017 #4161 Share Posted April 23, 2017 OMG. The beginning of this thread is like from 10 years ago, or something..... I would guess (but don't know) that some of the terms, perks, etc., have changed since then. Even if they haven't, do I really want to try and read through HUNDREDS of PAGES? My husband and I have just received our NCL Mastercards. Is there someplace (that ISN'T hundreds of pages long) where we can get tips to best utilize the card, maximize rewards, and best use of the rewards points? This link takes you to NCL's website https://www.ncl.com/world-points#collapse3 There are lots of opinions on best use of the points. Larry and I think using 60,000 points for double meta upgrade (pay for an inside, receive a balcony) is the best option - - saved us far more money on our 14 day Panama Canal cruise than using the points for onboard credit or $$ off the cruise or $$ back from BAC. You need to look at the pricing on the cruise you are interested in and see what works for you.

When you use your card and get your first statement, go to your online statement and click on rewards. That will give you a general idea or use the link provided in a post or two back. Depending on your cruise habits, some rewards are better than others. Double meta upgrade is worth the most to me, especially if you do longer cruises. I used the double meta for a 15 night panama and a 40 night Asia. Panama was worth $1600 value, Asia was worth $6000 value. Last was a 21 night med cruise and value was worth $3000+ What ever you thoughts or plans are, just ask here. We will help:) Steve

Yes they will expire based on the expiration schedule on your online statement. Double meta can be the best value, but if you are going to cancel or lose, redeem for statement credit in 10,000 point blocks. $100 is better than nothing. But, since we get triple points for anything purchased thru NCL, and we are booked on 4 cruises for 2018 (B2B2B2B), we do plan on utilizing the card to pay off all of those cruises. I do not book the cheapest because the cheapest sell out in all category's first and there is not an even swap or upgrade. Remember it is based on availabilty, which is not really a problem. What ever ship you are going on, see what catagory of Balcony they have the most of, like a BC, which would be 3rd best, so I book the 3rd best inside which is not much more than the cheapest inside, so you get swapped from 3rd best inside to 3rd best Balcony. Spa and Aft are now excluded and option to upgrade was not allowed on my upcoming cruise since they did not place a value on the upgrade so there was no "pay the difference to get an aft". If I were you, I would pay off the cruises now and get the points and use them.:D Now there might be a few issues so be aware. my 40 night cruise is a B2B2B which is 3 cruises in reality, but was sold as one 40 night cruise as well as 3 individual cruises, so booking the 40 night got me 1 booking number so my meta upgrade was for all 40 nights 1 shot. If your 4 B2B are not under 1 booking number your upgrade is good for just 1 cruise only. Steve If it did n

The 4 cruises are 8-day, 14-day, 11-day and 14-day. If we were to upgrade any of them, obviously it would be wisest to choose one of the longer cruises...and in our case, the 14-day Panama Canal transit, rather than the 14-day Trans-Atlantic crossing....more ports and more to see on the Canal transit, I think. But, that's all something to remember for another time. I don't believe we will have the needed amount of points for any of these cruises.

danak13 Posted May 24, 2017 #4171 Share Posted May 24, 2017 An update as we are fresh off the ship. The OBC from my NCL credit card was used DIRECTLY to pay the daily service charges. There was no need to pull money out at the casino. The $150 was posted on the first day and my credit balance went down and down through the week. Strangely enough, my $5 charge at Margaritaville was not able to be covered by those OBC. Hi Michelle, So I got this credit card to help with the gratuities on the ship and will probably be able to get $200 OBC before my cruise and was upset (like you) that it said it would not count towards the service charges. Can you tell me how the process went for you? When you called to get the OBC, do they give you a voucher or something? And it did end up working for you for the gratuities? Thank you in advance for the info!

Thank you in advance for the info! You call the number to redeem your award. It's on your online statement under the rewards tab. They credit the money to your on board account and it is debited as needed or used. They say you can't use it for tips but it seems that is not really true any more, but that is the rule. Just redeem for a statement credit and then you don't need to worry. Steve Sent from my VS880 using Forums mobile app
gemcrusier Posted May 29, 2017 #4173 Share Posted May 29, 2017 I have had my NCL credit card for some time about as long as this thread and a warning for those who have one yesterday I received a email letting me know my pass code was changed on the account. Well I hadn't been on online or changed the code, so to be sure this wasn't a scammer I called the number on the back of the card and sure enough the pass code was changed and when they asked me to sign in my account I couldn't . After some time and verifying who I was a new sign in and pass code was done . When I checked my account I did not see any charges that were not mine, however my points were gone. THE ROTTEN RAT STOLE MY POINTS !!! . This person stole and transferred a bunch of points to my account then added my points to his and booked a flight and hotel . I was on the phone forever yesterday and they are investigating this newest scam so be aware of your points, hopefully I get mine back I almost had enough for a free 7 night cruise. I am so upset
