tridentairlines Posted February 23, 2018 #4426 Share Posted February 23, 2018 Can double meta upgrade be done before final payment? I'm planing to make a booking for 10 day cruise inside cabin and use 60000 points for a balcony room. After booking inside cabin,I would like to wait and see if prices will drop a little, maybe new promos will come out, see if it is worth it. You may always cancel before final payment is due and retrieve your points. In fact, the best cabins/deals are found by investigating cruises more than a year in advance. Rare BSR Posted February 23, 2018 #4429 Share Posted February 23, 2018 YES ! Most value is gained by an initial purchase of a IA so you may be transferred to a BA.When you call in, most NCL representatives will walk you through this. You don't have to decide straight away ! Where can I find the terms and conditions regarding upgrades with our points? I looked on both BofA and NCL and cannot find anything about the meta upgrades on either website. I found the pdf about the Program but it just says you can upgrade not how.

Hope to have 60,000 by then. In general, you have to book(pay for) an IA to get a BA (same category). And yes, you may book now while prices are lower, then upgrade when you have enough points. However, on different ships there maybe different conditions. When you call the NCL Rewards desk, they should advise you and let you know of options. Take your time ! Make sure you are getting what you want.

I looked at both of the places you and mscdivina2016 described and still do not see anything explaining what cabin you need to book in order to meta upgrade to a higher category. Is it only Inside and OV to balcony or can you do OV to balcony/mini..... and can you do balcony to mini suite or full suite? Okay I may have found it. Looks like only Inside & OV to balcony...is that correct? Edited February 25, 2018 by peg013

chk-gnt Posted February 25, 2018 #4438 Share Posted February 25, 2018 How does the Meta upgrade work for solo passengers? When you've already paid double for the cabin your in. Surely you don't have to double your points that you use.

Hope to have 60,000 by then. Agree with Ship Shape that you would need to book an IA. You can book the lowest category inside, and they will adjust your reservation as needed when you call for the upgrade. Last Tuesday I told my PCC that on Friday I would have the points for the double meta upgrade. She booked us the lowest category inside (IF). On Friday I called the world points desk, and was told that my category IF would get me a category BD balcony. To get the category BC we wanted, we would need a category ID inside ($20 pp more). The rep. changed us to category IC, and then applied the upgrade and redeemed the points . She even was able to add the ultimate beverage plan to the reservation for us. Surely you don't have to double your points that you use. Meta upgrade (inside to oceanview or oceanview to balcony) is 30,000 points. Doesn't matter if there is one, two, three or four passengers although terms and conditions state that "Stateroom upgrades are subject to availability. The number of 3rd and 4th occupancy staterooms are limited and based on availability."
my3sonsnj Posted February 26, 2018 #4441 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Just used 10,000 points to do a within meta 2 category upgrade. I was told a 2 category within meta was the only option to get into an aft balcony! ;) Apparently there is no way to do a cross meta or double cross meta into a B1 aft balcony, just in case anyone is interested in an aft balcony. I'm also not sure how it works if the ship doesn't have any B3's, does anyone know??? Has anyone received different information? My original booking had to be in a B3 (I was in a B2 and actually had to downgrade my reservation to a B3 in order to use my worldpoints). Only then I was able to upgrade to a B1. Oh Well . . . I still saved $2300 with 10,000 points (i.e. $100) on a Panama Canal cruise.

Just did a double meta upgrade, but had 12k points left to use on a different cruise. Just upgraded us to a B1 for our Nov 2018 12 night SC. The price to book the B1 on NCL website is 5210, and I paid 3590 for it. A cost difference of 1620. It did cost me approx. $300 to upgrade our BC to a B3, but 3590 is a steal for an aft balcony on a 12 night. Let me note that the prices I am quoting include the drink plan and dining plan charges. Question .... Were you able to do double meta upgrade (inside to balcony for 60,000 points) and then use 10,000 points to go from B3 Balcony to B1 balcony (two category upgrade)? If so, did you do this by calling the NCL Worldpoint number or by some other means? We have already used 30,000 points for meta upgrade oceanview to balcony on Oct 2019 Jade cruise. After spending over an hour on the phone today with the NCL Worldpoint department unsuccessfully trying to get to an aft facing balcony on the cruise by using 10,000 points for two category upgrade or even 20,000 points for four category upgrade I was told it could not be done because you can't do two upgrades. This contradicts what I was told in the past when I asked if you could first do 30,000 points inside to oceanview and later down the road do another 30,000 points oceanview to balcony and contradicts what you were able to do. After the gal said she thought she had it (by doing the 20,000 point method) and actually changed my booking from the cheaper oceanview to cheaper balcony to a more expensive oceanview to more expensive balcony for almost $440 higher price she was unable to complete the process. I asked to speak to a supervisor and held for another 15 or so minutes. Supervisor said it could not be done, that I had already used a Worldpoint upgrade and you cannot do two upgrades. She would not budge so after some discussion I had her undo what the gal had done leaving me in my BC balcony. We are platinum plus with NCL and currently have four cruises booked with them. If this is indeed the "rules" and applies to everyone I can live with that. If it is just that I'm not speaking to the right person I'd really love to know who I should be talking to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sent from my RCT6303W87DK using Forums mobile app I don't understand(?) Are you asking, that, if you book for a Disney Cruise , you will be given a discount? You may certainly book with an on-line or other, for a NCL cruise, even though you did not book directly with NCL Talk with your Travel Agent also , spend much time talking to NCL Reps. You will find "some" will be be just as interested as you. Edited February 27, 2018 by $hip$hape
my3sonsnj Posted February 27, 2018 #4448 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Question .... Were you able to do double meta upgrade (inside to balcony for 60,000 points) and then use 10,000 points to go from B3 Balcony to B1 balcony (two category upgrade)? I have been told on every phone call that I can only do 1 upgrade with worldpoints, so I have to decide where I want to end up before completing a redemption. I have never been told anything different. Everyone I have talked to in the NCL worldpoints redemption department has told me that there is no way to get to an aft balcony from an oceanview (cross meta) or an inside (double cross meta). The highest balcony category I can get is a BA using those options.
my3sonsnj Posted February 27, 2018 #4449 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Will I be able to upgrade if I didn't book with NCL? If you are booked through a travel agent, you can still use your worldpoints to upgrade your cabin on an NCL cruise.
my3sonsnj Posted March 1, 2018 #4450 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Just used 10,000 points to do a within meta 2 category upgrade. My original booking had to be in a B3 (I was in a B2 and actually had to downgrade my reservation to a B3 in order to use my worldpoints). Only then I was able to upgrade to a B1. Update: I just did the same upgrade on the Bliss. Since the Bliss doesn't have a B3 category, you will need the original booking to be in a B8 on that ship if you want to use 10,000 points (2 category within meta upgrade) to a B1.
