Getting to NYC in December

We will be sailing on the Majesty in december. We are from New York and will be driving down with our kids and another family. has anyone done this and how long did it take to get to charlston we are leaving the day before the cruise. any recommendations on where to stay. we are sailing on the December 22nd cruise. :)

I was thinking of doing this in January. According to my map its over 800 miles from New York City to Charleston and I live just a bit north of New York City; not sure how much further north you are.

 

The ship sails on Saturday so I was planning on leaving Thursday night after work. There are hotels in the Charleston area where you can stay the night before and leave the car all week. You can do a search on this web site under east coast departures with the term "Charleston parking" and many posts will come up recommending which hotels to use.
