9 night new England and Canada cruise

[Arlington VA]

My family is taking this cruise later this month and we would love information on the best things to do/how to get around in these ports: Portland, Maine; Bar Harbor; St John's and the Bay of Fundy; Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Boston, MA. We don't really want to book the ship's short excursions unless anyone highly recommends them.
