Ground Transportation; Hobby to Galveston

I just learned that RCI does not have ground transfers from Houston Hobby to Galveston and back. Also, Enterprise Car Rental no longer offers its drop-off and pick-up at Galveston. Can anyone advise best and cheapest way to get from Hobby to Galveston. We have booked on August 12th sailing.

Probably Hertz if you want the convenience of a rental car. I would first call Hertz local office in Galveston. There are several limo companies (really 12 passenger vans) that offer service from HOU to Galveston, but we have never used them. We used to do Enterprise rental, as we go in a day or two early, so we will probably switch to Hertz. You should note that Enterprise rentals in Galveston seem to be constantly in a state of flux. A couple of weeks from now it could all change and Enterprise would again be an option.

 

It never hurts to give them a call.

We used Galveston Limos (which was actually a shared van) in April from Bush but they also serve Hobby. We were very pleased with their service.

 

We made a reservation in advance for round trip service. We arrived a little early and got our luggage very quickly so we were ready to leave the airport much earlier than the time we set up. They managed to get us on an earlier shuttle so we didn't have to wait another hour. (We arrived the day before our cruise so they dropped us at our motel.) After the cruise, they had buses waiting when we cleared customs and we were on the road to the airport much quicker than any cruise line transfer we've ever used.

Hobby location. Pretty good deal, actually. Cheapest room is $79, add $120 pp (Galveston Limo price, that's probably who they use), adds up to $199, $30 more than the package rate. If you can just tolerate the location....
