woodmill100 Posted July 18, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2007 We have a 3 week holiday planned next May. At the moment we've got to get from Edinburgh to New York (easy enough as there is a direct flight). We've got this itinery; Day 1 arrive New York (still to work out which hotel is best) Day 2 board ship for cruise to Bahamas and Florida (6 nights) Day 8 disembark ship for 3 nights in NY. Day 11 fly to Vancouver and find hotel for overnight Day 12 board ship for cruise to Alaska (7 nights) Day 19 disembark ship for 2 nights in Vancouver Day 21 Vancouver to home. Having never been to New York or Vancouver before, have we got enough time in New York? Our flight should land around mid day but I have no idea how jetlag will effect us. I'd rather forfeit 1 night in Vancouver for an extra night in NY if you think we'll need it. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. Thank you. BlueHerons Posted July 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2007 What port are you sailing out of in New York? Liberty, Brooklyn or Manhattan? If Brooklyn, book the Brooklyn Marriott your first night. If Liberty, book the Sheraton Weehauken or the Jersey City Hyatt. In Manhattan, and don't let anyone talk you into staying in New Jersey, check out these hotels. The London NYC (formerly Rhiga Royal) http://www.rihgaroyalny.com/ The Michelangelo http://www.michelangelohotel.com/ Hotel Giraffe http://www.hotelgiraffe.com/ They are all nice boutique hotels that are in great locations but also have tranquil rooms and public spaces. A less expensive great boutique hotel is The Park South Hotel http://www.parksouthhotel.com/ If you want a suite with a kitchen look at the Affinia properties and I like The Shelburne Murray Hill and The Surrey the best but the Benjamin is their crown jewel. www.Affinia.com Lastly, my parents practically live here at The Salisbury Hotel. It is right behind Central Park, across from Carnegie Hall and a stones throw to Times Square http://www.nycsalisbury.com/ I have personally stayed in all of the above. woodmill100 Posted July 18, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted July 18, 2007 WOW! Thanks so much for all of that information. Will check it out. At the moment it just says New York!
willysgrandma Posted July 19, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 19, 2007 Check the Hotel Mela and the Marriott in Times Square too. Three days in NYC should allow you to see enough.
Drew's Wife Posted December 29, 2007 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2007 I agree with Willy Grandma, The Hotel Mela is wonderful. We stayed there on our first trip to New York City this past Summer and it was fantastic! Right in Times Square, so it is very convenient. Has recently been renovated and the rooms are just beautiful. (so clean) I would stay there again for this reason alone. It is not cheap, but well worth the extra amount spent. janetz Posted December 29, 2007 #7 Share Posted December 29, 2007 This sounds like a wonderful trip. :D However, I am curious to know how you will pack for the Carribean and Alaska? Alaska will be pretty chilly in May. The Hotel Mela is a great choice. Enjoy NY! :)
