Carnival Victory

Marylandlady, we were sitting on Lido finishing our coffee and watched you pull in! I can't imagine what it was like debarking with 4 ships there on Saturday  We had priority but declined to use it because we had other family members with us who did not have that option. We finished our breakfast, watched NCL Spirt and Miracle pull in, got an elevator within 60 seconds of pushing the button, were on a very short line and off the ship, picked up by Airbrook and home by 11:30am! A few other things I noticed about this trip: we saw many stewards in the hall with gloves on doing the "fingertip test" for dust on the railings. That is how clean at least our deck was. Sea day coming home the weather cleared up and there were a lot of people at the pool/on Lido. There is usually the "last day" crowd at the bar whooping it up. It was EMPTY for most of the afternoon and we usually see huge crowds in the casino that last night and that was pretty tame too. One other thing: the last day we were sitting behind a big family group-ages toddler to grandmother. The water in the pool was splashing over the sides, so they had it roped off. One of the women made a huge stink about it. Started ranting and raving so an "officer" (a woman in a white outfit) was called and she patiently tried to explain that it was roped off for the pax'es safety, etc, but all this woman kept saying was she paid good $ for them to swim in a pool and they had no right to tell her she/they couldn't! I must say, this "officer" handled the situation very very well. When the pool eventually "calmed down" they did take the ropes off and allow pax in. But I personally wanted to SMACK that pax. I am really sorry some of you didn't have a good experience on the Victory, but I can't say enough about our trip!

lol. I'll try!

Seriously though, I'm actually pretty quiet and normally reserved. I'm also not pushy or impatient. The problem, as it pertains to being on a ship, is that I really don't care what others think of me. I don't go out of my way to piss people off, but I don't really go out of my way to impress strangers either.

Examples (based on recent posts):

I'll be the one ordering a 2nd entree even though I know there's probably someone at the same table who thinks "That's not a guy who needs seconds!!" (see the current buffet rant thread).

If the Kids Capers says on the back page that kids over 12 can go in the hot tub if accompanied by an adult ( http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2509231200070058185PpQYgJ ), mine might be in there even if there's an Adults Only plaque glued to the wall. The Capers take precedence IMO.

If my kids are doing the teen's stuff in the early evening, I will probably go to late show in the lounge even though we're (hopefully) early seating for dinner. That'll give me alot of time to get there and grab great seats for the 3 of us. (see the thread on being a Theater Hog)

Anyway, I just think a boat filled with 3000 other "me's" probably would be a pretty crappy cruise for alot of people. That's not bragging or trying to stir the pot. I'm just being honest. People from the Northeast are not always the most easy going gentle souls on the planet.

Well, I say you sound like a guy that I would cruise with any day!!!

As for the hot tub and kids, this is a perfect example of an area where Carnival needs to get their act together. This is not the cruisers fault. I would go by the Capers as well. It is just like the new Carnival ships that are coming out. They have the perfect place for an adults only area and what does Carnival do....but the pizza area there. DUH!!!

Time for the uprising of the comment card brigade!!!

You are correct in that I am sure it will not sit well with some on this board.... but as for me I APPRECIATE the comments and opinion.... Could you go in further detail about your less than desirable experience aboard the Triumph ?
The OP was on the Victory, not the Triumph. The Victory has had a LOT of complaints recently. We were on the Triumph last month and had a great cruise.

I agree with you, I too have an upcoming NCL booked instead of a CCL. I found my last cruise 3 months ago was really lacking in many area's with food being one of them.I sent my meat back several times (actually 3 times in one seating) How do you confuse Medium rare with Well done? 3 times?

Did you actually eat it after that    !!!! Cuz you do know what happened to it back in the kitchen ;) !!!

Yes I did, on a ship it is so much an assembly line style that I am not too concerned. They just grab another plate. I hope.

We're just off the Victory this past Thursday, and my review is being worked on. We had a great time. The bad things were small (double charged for drinks twice, and although I wasn't playing, bingo players not told that there could only be one winner..lots of booing!) and the good things were plentiful. This was our first Carnival (our second will be on the Liberty) and if the second is as good as the first was, we have a winner.

The ship can't be held responsible for the fog, and fog we had, but the days in port were perfect days. The crew told us we were lucky..it's been very rainy and foggy on the other port days in the past. Our food was great, our waiter perfect, our room was very clean, the computer wifi worked flawlessly, the pizza was wonderful, and we had a great time. Maybe it's the luck of the draw.

My wife and I were on the July 5th Victory cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our dining room staff and cabin steward were excellent. Our cabin (9238, Lido Deck) was spotless. This was our third cruise on Carnival in 19 months and the food was just as good as the last two. Having been to the western Caribbean on the Triumph and the Valor, this was obviously a very different cruise. However it was exactly what we anticipated. We left the 3 kids home with their grandparents and we basically took a cruise to nowhere. There is really nothing to do in Saint John, but we got off the ship, walked around for 2 1/2 hours and enjoyed the nice weather and the sights. I think that many people expect too much on this cruise, but with cool foggy weather and not much to do in port, it just can't measure up to a Caribbean cruise. As for the passengers on this cruise, it is definitely a New York area crowd, but since we live in northern New Jersey, we are used to it. Our prior two cruises left out of Miami (both during Christmas vacation) and had a completely different set passengers. Christmas week is mostly families and a large Canadian contingent.

We chose the 4 day Victory cruise because it fit our work schedule and we could drive the 25 minutes to the port, park the car and hop on the ship. We booked it about 50 days before sailing and got a great deal. Overall it was a fantastic cruise because it met (and in some cases exceeded) our expectations. We are already planning our next Carnival cruise.
