Normandie Posted May 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I seem to recall reading a magazine article about a statue of a dog near an Alaskan cruise ship pier, or perhaps it was the ferry. I cannot be sure, but I think the dog's name was Patsy, and she greeted arrivals with a joyous bark, hence the memorial. Does anyone know if this is fact or fiction. If it is fact, exactly where is the statue located? Bet you can't tell I am a dog lover! grouchy Posted May 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I remember hearing the story-she swam out to greet the ships. Think she was deaf also? Will look in my Alaska book and if I find anything will post it. Time for another Cruise!
Yukon Posted May 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2004 It's a fact! The dog was Patsy Ann, and she was the greeter at Juneau and has been honored by a wonderful statue on the docks. There's also a beautifully-done private Web site about her at http://www.patsyann.com/ I'm a dog nut too! Murray Everything Husky! Budget Queen Posted May 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Yep right at the Juneau dock. If going interior- you can also see the dog statue at the Iditrod start in Downtown Anchorage. There is also a "stuffed" togo, at the Wasilla sled dog museum. AND Balto at the Cleveland Natural History museum and a statue in Central Park- I finally got to see it in Dec. It was a thrill for me actually. mii Posted May 12, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Glad you bought this subject. We were in Alaska last Sept. and there she was, at the port of Juneau. When you got off the ship you turn left and she is there in a promenade setting. It was really neat. Marilyn
Normandie Posted May 12, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Thank you all for the information. Being able to see and photograph that statue will be a highlight of the trip. Thank you Yukon for the link to the Patsy Ann website. The story is truly touching; I am still crying buckets!
