Need tips on what would go nice with this funky necklace!

Recommended Posts

I just purchased quite a bit of costume jewerly from JCPenney (minus the coupon codes I desperately searched for) and this particular necklace I'm not sure what to wear with it! The clearance prices on the costume jewelry is really good.

Lately I have been really liking this type of jewelry, (I hated it years ago) and its funny how as you get older your taste changes! I was in Burlington Coat factory last week, and purchased two nice necklaces for everyday or nighttime wear.

I have been trying to find different ways to enhance the clothes I wear, because sometimes justing wearing white pants and a black shirt doesn't quite do it! but I think this style of jewelry will work well for me. My girlfriend told me I am starting to look afrocentric or bahamian:rolleyes:

I like it because it has a nice tropical look, which would go nice on the cruise ship!

here is a picture of the necklace! Your ideas are appreciated! This board is great for fashion tips, casual or otherwise!

First of all - love the necklace!

I may not be the best to give advice as I am somewhat basic when I have a great piece of jewelry. I could see myself wearing that necklace with a sharp black top, maybe something with a collar and funky cuffs, a wide black leather belt with a large but basic buckle, and fitted black pants with funky black heels. I also think the necklace would look great with a yellow top of some sort.

Ooooh love the necklace too!! I love accessories like jewelry and belts - you can take basic pieces and spice them up according to your mood or trends. I am in a sundress mood right now, so my vote goes for a colorful sundress, turqouise comes to mind right away. Take a pic when you wear it and post it!!

For daytime, I think this necklace would look pretty with a turquiose tee or tank or a coral colored tee or tank with a pair of white pants or a white skirt.

For a casual dinner, a natural colored leather sandal with some decorative stones of the same colors of the necklace would make a solid colored outfit really "pop".

The necklace really has so many colors in it that you really could play around with it and use it a lot.

Here are two tips used by professional stylists to see if it blends:

1. Put the outfit together on the floor or bed and then lay accessory pieces on top. If the colors of the necklace and the colors/fabric of the clothes coordinate, it wil look pleasing to your eye. If it doesn't, it won't work on the body either.

2. Hold the items up in front of a mirror (not on you). It'll give you a better idea if the colors/textures blend.

Lastly, invite friends over for mojito's and ask their opinions. However, get the opinions before they're finished their mojito's! :D

Enjoy your new things.

Great ideas ladies,

The sundress and white pants sound great!

I never thought about the black medcruise, but it may work.

Oh! I forgot to show you guys the watch that I purchased too. Its not part of a set with necklace, but look how close they resemble each other

Love the necklace, it's something I would buy. I'd wear it with jeans and and a tailored white shirt, unbutton an extra button.

I'd wear it with a black top, a white top, a turquoise top (scoop neck T's - girl shirts). I'd wear it with a tunic top and pants or a skirt. I'd wear it with a plain black dress, perhaps a cotton sundress.

Keep the rest of the jewelry simple, don't wear 2 eye catching pieces at the same time. I'd do a plain bangle bracelet and simple earrings, or no bracelet at all and a huge, plain ring. The watch needs to be its own focal point, don't wear the 2 pieces together.

Have fun with it :)

I like the idea of the bejeweled leather sandals.

(sorry the coupon thing didnt work) did you get the 15% on the back of your receipt tho?....The nklc is verrry fab..one I would choose..I have 1 w/those colors, or I'd rush right down!..still might!...Consider amid the other great suggestions..the natural colors of beige, wheat, tan, linen paired with blk bottom..maybe a shorty black vest, or cami w/ beigy top..I'm a 3 part clothing girl..I feel suit-y, and really put together. I love the native, glass-y brass-y, bead-y concept to pop my wardrobe..if you don't find er's to go w...check out the Bijoux Terner items in the gift shop on board. The "Everythings $10"..I am a BT "ho"..and, they put out new items every day...I go to Atlanta, Dallas and Tampa airports as they are in the concourses there too. at the AP's, you have to enter thru a hotel entrance to get to the shopping area, w/out a tickt to fly. Also they are in large Casino shopping malls...Like you, I'm really impressed w/JCP's new jewel selection..really smart, and fab pricing..gonna go back today I think.Let us girls know what you select as the wardrobe basic with your pretty new finds..lucky

Hi Lucky

I ordered the items online, no receipt, except the confirmation email!

JCPennys jewelry section has changed quite a bit! More variety in styles. I like the beaded jewelry depending on the size and colors.

I am really leaning towards the jeans and turquoise or white top combo or white pants with turquoise top, Jeans on a cruise ship hmmm?? I guess that would work,

Our trip is May 3rd, and it will probably not be too warm in the evenings! I hate denim near my skin in the summer except for capris,

Black!

I would wear it with a black V neck plain shirt and either a plain long slim black skirt or black fitted pants.

Simple earings.

The only other accessory I might wear would be a pair of black severe glasses.

I love contrasting funky with severe.

Hey Lucky

You never know!! Its a small world:)

When you is your next cruise????

This may sound weird but for the past few years now I have been thinking about my heritage and where my ancestors came from. Sometimes I think I am of carribbean or bahamian decent. Not just because the islands are beautiful and tropical, but I just get a sense that I am somehow connected to it! I am always fascinated when I meet people from the islands. I work for a large University and I meet many students from the Carribbean, and love hearing their accents and the stories they tell. I know, it sounds weird:o

I love this type of necklace. I would wear it with a black jewel-neck top and black skirt for a way of 'dressing up' an outfit (that you could wear again on a cruise :D ). It would also look fantastic with a white blouse with the buttons undone enough to show off the beautiful necklace with a pair of jeans. I am a HUGE fan of wearing black..yes, one of 'those'. I try to dress up black with accessories and no is the wiser....;) . I used to be a Buyer for JCP (wayyyyyy back when). Don't shop there any more, but may have to stop in for a look now!

Enjoy your new finds!

I agree to wear it with black or just a solid color.

When you wear jewlery that grabs attention, I think that the rest of your clothing should be solid and simple or it just looks like you have too much going on!

It doesn't sound weird at all! When I see pictures of Ireland, even though I've never been there (yet), it calls to my heart in a way that no other place does.

As for your awesome necklace -- wear it with white by day, black by night. If your hair is long, wear it up, and no other jewelry. That necklace deserves to be the star!

I wear this type of jewelery all the time ( check out Chico's.com for some more wonderful things ) .. and I think you will be hard pressed to find a color that it doesn't go with.. Not prints but most solid colors will pick up somthing in that necklace.

Jane110 is correct .. as usual .. lay it all out and see what you think .. but I am going to be surprised if you don't like it with most colors ( perhaps not purple .. but then who knows )

Awesome necklace!

I would not wear it with turqoise, for the pop colors in the necklace will fade if you wear silimar colors on, or near it.

I would wear it with a light cream, or faded kakhi, or beige color, a sleeveless tank, or V neck top, cut on the body, showing your curves a bit,

Dress down with a jeans, or up with a marlene ditrich pants in the same color as the top,

Follow with a belt in turqoise, and some chunkey bracelets to make the look even more tropical,

gold sandal, high heels,

done ;)

Thats what I am looking for, tropical look. I like the white and jeans idea! I have a pair of nice jeans now, if I can find a nice cotton white shirt that would do it. I rarely wear anything white, because it makes me look larger than I am.

I would wear a turquoise pants suit in cotton or cotton blend. I imagine the top being a sleeveless long top and the pants being wide leg. Both pieces could be turquoise or just the pants could be and the top being white.

I have an 8 gore white eyelet skirt, midcalf length and I pair it most often with a close fitting low cut white tank which is accented with stones the same color in the necklace. I would definitely wear with that outfit and some great mid heeled sandals.

I would also wear it with the right shade of brown, my new favorite color. I pair brown with turquoise and metallics quite often as it suits my coloring and accents my tan. I prefer it in summer to black here in the tropics.
