LiveToCruise99 Posted July 23, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2007 Hello, We're thinking of going to Heron Island for a few days prior to boarding our cruise out of Sydney in Jan 2008. Does anyone have any advice about this destination? Is it worth the price? What should we expect for weather in January? Does it cool down at night? I know you can't give names but is there a better way to book (or less expensive) than the obvious ones? What about flights from Sydney to Gladstone. Which airlines? Does any airline fly direct? Anything you could tell me would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted July 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2007 Hello Livetocruise 99,, You would need to fly to Gladstone out of Brisbane and then transfer to a small aircraft. Definitely no direct flights to Heron out of Sydney. The weather could be rough if there is an early cyclone in the area and it is not at all cold...rather hot and humid (overnight mins. would be around 24C). Check out Qantas airlink flights. To visit Heron alone (unless you have specific reasons to go there) would seem "under par "as the Great Barrier Reef is a far better option. Hope this helps. Cheers, Kinkacruiser
vozzie Posted July 29, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2007 First of all, a small correction ... Heron Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef It would be a great place to visit if you have the time, money and interest in a quiet natural place. here is a link to "How to get there" http://www.heronisland.com/getting/
